How to change settings on your Windows Mobile phone |
| Overview | In the Settings folder, you’ll find a variety of options and utilities that you can use to control, configure, and gain information about your Windows Mobile phone.
To change the settings on a Windows Mobile Professional phone, select Start > Settings. On some Windows Mobile Standard phones, settings may be located under Start > All Programs > Settings. |
| Change settings on a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (touch screen) phone | Select the setting you want to change by tapping or clicking the icon with the stylus or with your finger. To save the new settings, click OK in the upper-right corner.
On a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional phone, the Settings area is divided into three tabs:
| Personal. Personalize your phone with these settings. You can customize the function of the buttons, change the owner information, select the sounds and notifications (including ringtones), change the theme color and the Today screen plug-ins, and more. System. Control and get more information about your phone’s hardware. The About function shows you the CPU speed on your smartphone, the amount of memory it has, and the version of Windows Mobile you're using. The System tab also allows you to control the phone's backlight, wipe the device memory (be careful with this one!), change the clock and alarms, check the battery level, change how and when your screen and device turns off to save power, manage running tasks, and more. If you're having trouble accurately selecting items on the screen, you can perform a screen alignment, found by clicking the Screen icon. Connections. Review the communications settings for your phone. This is a centralized area that controls the infrared, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and 2G/3G phone settings—depending on your smartphone's hardware. You can change and create data connections for your phone here and use the Wireless Manager to do things like put the phone into airplane mode (which turns off the phone radio).

Change settings on a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (non-touch screen) phone | Select the setting you want to change—either with the directional pad or by pressing the number on your phone's keyboard—and make the appropriate changes. Click the left soft key to select Done. If you wish to leave the settings as they were, click the right soft key to select Cancel.
On a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard phone, the Settings area includes a long list of menu options. The first screen contains the most commonly used settings for your phone, such as:
| Phone. Allows you control features like Auto-Answer, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, and which network your phone connects to (this is helpful when roaming). Sounds. Allows you to change the ringtone. Profiles. Allows you to edit profiles to change whether your phone will vibrate when it rings, how loud the incoming call sound is, and how loud the new e-mail alert is. Home Screen. Allows you to change the look of your phone.
|
| If you need to remove a program you've installed, you'll also find the Remove Programs option here. |

| Owner Information. Provides a place to fill out contact information in case you ever lose your phone. About. Tells you about the software on your phone and how much memory your phone has. Accessibility. Allows you to make the default system font larger for easier reading.
|
| Some phones will have a third screen of options. These tend to be device-specific and related to the hardware on the phone. |
