Organize ideas and information on your
Windows Mobile phone

Pocket PCs and smartphones are designed to help you organize and manage information, and come with the basics built in. However, there are a number of interesting and useful add-on programs that can help make your life more effective.

No-cost organization solutions

In addition to the built-in features on your Pocket PC and Smartphone, there is a wide variety of freeware programs that can help you organize your ideas and information.

ADB Idea Library (Pocket PC only: happyjackroad.net/index.asp) helps you organize your ideas quickly and easily. Ideas can be recorded via text, voice, sketch, or file attachments.

Due Date Reminder (Pocket PC only: pocketgear.com) helps you keep track of when your bills are due. You can organize bills by paid and unpaid, display total and unpaid total, and set reminder alarms.

Due Date Reminder helps you make sure you pay your bills on time.

Low-cost organization solutions

The following are some of the better low cost organization solutions available for your Windows Mobile device.
Project-ing from Birdsoft (Pocket PC only: birdsoft.biz/project.htm) is an inexpensive project management solution. It has an easy to use interface and integrates with Contacts, Tasks, and Calendar. Note that it does not accept data files from other project management solutions. Birdsoft also offers Ulti-Planner, an alternative personal information manager for the Pocket PC with full Outlook Mobile support, including Notes and Journal.

Agenda Fusion from Developer One (Pocket PC only: developerone.com) integrates with the Pocket Outlook databases, but uses its own interface to provide more functionality than Pocket Outlook. There are six views in Agenda Fusion, which help you quickly view and manage your contacts, appointments, and schedule. Developer One also offers Power Calendar and Power Tasks for the Smartphone platform, enhancing the built-in Calendar and Tasks applications.

Pocket Informant from Web Information Solutions (pocketinformant.com) is another application that replaces Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks with a single, integrated application that is more powerful and flexible than the originals. ListPro from Ilium Software (iliumsoft.com) and List Manager from Unwired Software (unwiredsoftware.com) let you create and organize lists of all kinds. These three are available for the Pocket PC and Smartphone.

CodeWallet Pro (developerone.com), FlexWallet (webis.net), and eWallet (iliumsoft.com) are electronic wallet applications that let you store sensitive information securely on your Windows Mobile device. HPC Notes (phatware.com) lets you create notes and organize them by type, subject, and creation or modification date. These applications are available for Pocket PCs and Smartphones.

A variety of more focused organizational tools are available. If you’re traveling, you can manage your travel itinerary with the help of Fizz Traveler (fizzsoftware.com) or EZGo (Pocket PC only: tonaya.com). Or you can use WorldMate (mobimate.com) to organize and manage all your travel needs.

ListPro helps you create and organize all kinds of lists. EZGo for the Pocket PC (top) and WorldMate (Smartphone version(bottom) are software tools that help manage your travels.

You can also use your Windows Mobile device to organize your studies, hobby, or profession. Pocket Genealogist (Pocket PC only: northernhillssoftware.com) organizes your genealogy research, providing support for events, facts, notes, sources, repositories, and more. IntelliGolf (intelligolf.com) is a GPS-enabled golf program that helps you track and improve your game. You can even track your exercise/sports activities with MySportTraining (Pocket PC only: mysporttraining.com), or your class schedule and assignments with 4.0Student (Pocket PC only: handmark.com).

4.0Student (top), MySports Training (middle) and IntelliGolf (Smartphone version bottom) are Windows Mobile applications that help you organize your studies, profession, or hobby. Finally, if none of these fit the bill, you might consider creating your own custom database to help you organize your life. HanDBase for Pocket PC Professional from DDH Software (ddhsoftware.com) is a relational database program that lets you create, view, and modify custom databases and link them in several ways. The developer’s Web site has over 2,000 databases covering a wide variety of topics that you can download for free.

DataViewer (pocketdirectory.com/software/dataviewer.aspx) is a free application for the Pocket PC and Smartphone that lets you view hundreds of DataViewer databases offered by PocketDirectory for a small fee. Database categories include dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference, food, drinks, and more.

PocketSoft’s abcDB Professional (pocketsoft.ca) lets you create and manage databases on your Pocket PC, and import MS Access databases from your desktop PC using ActiveSync. Finally, Visual CE from Syware (syware.com) is the most feature-rich database program available for the Pocket PC. It lets you create your own custom databases and synchronize them with desktop PC databases.
