Listen to music and watch videos on your Windows Mobile phone |
| This tip will show you how to use Windows Media Player Mobile for basic audio and video playback on your phone.
Note Windows Media Player Mobile comes with your Windows Mobile phone. |
| A note about file formats | It's important to understand what Windows Media Player Mobile can and can't do. It's designed to play back Windows Media Video (WMV) files and the online equivalent (.ASF)—but no other file types. If you have videos in other formats, such as MPEG-4 (H.264) or DivX, you'll want to check out CorePlayer Mobile.
Windows Media Player Mobile is more flexible when it comes to audio, because it supports both MP3 and WMA audio files. If you have audio files in other formats, such as AAC or Ogg, CorePlayer supports these formats, as well. |

Finding and playing media content on your Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional phone | Go to Start > Programs > Windows Media. On some phones, it may be inside an Applications subfolder. If Windows Media doesn't start in Library view, select Menu > Library. In the upper-left corner, there's a drop-down menu that allows you to toggle between content on your device and content on the storage card. Select the appropriate option. If this is the first time you've used it, you'll need to update the library (see the " Updating the library" section). Once you're looking at the Library view, you'll see My Music and My Videos as options. Click My Music to view your music library. Click My Videos to view your video library. Select My Music to see your entire library or to view specific artists, albums, or genres. Find the artist, album, or song you want to hear, and then select it and, in the lower-left corner, press Play. Once the file starts playing, you can control it using the on-screen buttons. If your device has one, the control pad (D-Pad) allows you to control the volume by pressing up and down, and you can skip or go back to songs by pressing left or right. You can seek within the song by pressing and holding the D-pad left or right. If you want to listen to something different, select Menu > Library, and repeat the above steps.

| | When you copy music or videos over to your device, Windows Media Player Mobile should automatically update the library, but if it doesn't, you'll need to trigger a manual update. On both touch screen and non-touch screen phones, the steps are the same. In the Library view, select Menu > Update Library. If you're looking for music on your storage card, be sure that Storage Card is selected as the library. |
| Deleting an item from the library | If you want to delete an item from your library, it's as simple as selecting it and then, in the menu, selecting Delete From Library. It's the same menu item on both touch screen and non-touch screen smartphones. Additionally, you can delete more than just one file—you can select an artist, an album, or an entire genre and delete all the files that fall under that category. |
| Adding items to the Now Playing list | If you'd like to build a customized playlist, select the song, album, artist, or genre, and select Menu > Queue Up. This applies to both touch screen and non-touch screen phones (though on a touch screen phone, you can also tap and hold on the item and then, in the menu that appears, select Queue Up). To look at what's been queued up for play, select Menu > Now Playing. |
| Playing items repeatedly or in random order | If you'd like to mix up the order of your songs or hear them repeatedly, from the Now Playing screen, select Menu > Shuffle/Repeat. Shuffle and Repeat are toggled separately, so if you want to turn on both, you'll need to go into the Menu > Shuffle/Repeat screen twice. Once you turn this option on, you'll see a checkmark next to each item. This applies to both touch screen and non-touch screen phones. |
