One way to customize your phone is to set the built-in camera’s photo resolution (the size of the pictures it takes). Why not just take the largest photos possible? Two reasons: storage space and photo usage.
Larger pictures require more storage space (and more time to download) than smaller pictures. If your phone has limited memory, reducing the resolution by half, for example, means you can capture twice as many images.
How you use your photos matters, too. If you upload your images to social networking sites, they’re often optimized for screen display and for faster downloading when you upload them to the site. Why use the extra storage space if the photo’s resolution will be tossed out later anyway? On the other hand, if you edit your photos (for example, cropping or zooming) for print or other artistic uses, it’s best to start with the highest resolution.
