Chip Firm Speeds Time-to-Market with Better Messaging Consistency and Reliability
Typical of many engineering firms, Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) had a divided work force: Engineers used UNIX-based workstations, and everyone else used Windows®-based desktop computers. The IT staff had to support an outdated messaging system, and many users had to put up with inferior e-mail features, reliability, and accessibility due to their use of the UNIX-based Netscape Messaging Server. To simplify life for both the IT staff and the company's 650 users, AMCC standardized on Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003 running on Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003. The Microsoft software has integrated smoothly into the UNIX environment and has also increased messaging reliability and improved remote access to e-mail. Employees are also more productive, which improves many business activities and ultimately reduces the time required to introduce new products.
