Microsoft Windows Server 2003 is the most secure and reliable Windows platform to date, due in part to investments made in development as a result of the Trustworthy Computing initiative. Interoperability and coexistence concerns were important in the development of Windows Server 2003, however in some instances backward compatibility was less important than security.
Find out about migrating and upgrading from Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.
The lists below show which products and technologies are compatible with Windows Server 2003 and which are not. Some products require a service pack to run directly on Windows Server 2003, but all Microsoft Server products will run in a server environment that contains Windows Server 2003 servers. Windows Server 2003 has been designed to work in mixed environments with previous versions of Windows server and the applications that run on top of them. By introducing Windows Server 2003 into those environments, customers can benefit from new features and security enhancements.
