NOTICE: Windows Server Catalog Update |
The Windows Server Catalog is Microsoft's single online source for customers and partners to find hardware and software that is compatible with the Windows Server 2003 family.
Certified applications as well as supported applications qualify to be listed. Certified applications have been through rigorous, third-party Certified for Windows Server 2003 testing. Supported applications are guaranteed by their independent software vendor (ISV), not Microsoft, to have been tested to run on Windows Server 2003.
ISVs can also list product information, support documentation, and links to additional information on their Web sites.
The Windows Server Catalog will launch in conjunction with Windows Server 2003. It will be very similar to the existing Windows XP Catalog.
Registering your products with the Windows Server Catalog is valuable for many reasons. Here are a few of the top reasons why ISVs we've spoken with are excited about participating:
Microsoft wants to make information about your applications available to you so your developers can analyze and repair bugs that may diminish customer satisfaction. Each time an application crashes, the Windows operating system collects information about what caused the crash and writes it to an application exception file. Most of these crashes are associated in some way with third-party applications. By registering your application with the Windows Server Catalog, you will automatically gain access to the exception data collected by Microsoft.*
The Windows Server Catalog can be accessed from both Microsoft.com and the Start menu of every Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP operating system. Over 100 million unique users visit Microsoft.com each month, many of them to look for new products or services available from Microsoft and our partners. In addition, the catalog is made available directly to Microsoft's leading ecosystem of worldwide partners to help them identify which applications to consider when installing Windows Server 2003 as an application server.
When customers plan server migrations, they need to know which applications will need to be upgraded. Customers want to find this information in one location. Microsoft markets the Windows Server Catalog to customers and partners as the one-stop source for information to plan successful deployments, including ISV-provided migration guidance and additional support options.
In addition, when an ISV lists an application in the Windows Server Catalog, it is also automatically entered in the Windows Application Compatibility Analyzer tool. This tool automates the most time-consuming tasks IT pros face when planning a migration, such as collecting an accurate inventory of applications in the environment, creating compatibility reports, and viewing ISV-provided migration guidance. Together the Windows Server Catalog and Application Compatibility Analyzer tool will help ease the pain for your customers and partners when planning a migration with your application.
