At TechEd North America 2008, Microsoft announced the availability of Beta 3 for Identity Lifecycle Manager (ILM) “2”, which dramatically changes the identity management landscape by delivering powerful self-service capabilities for Office end-users, rich administrative tools and enhanced automation for IT professionals, and .NET and WS-* based extensibility for developers.
Associated with this, Microsoft just announced the availability of “Zermatt” developer framework. “Zermatt” is a .NET developer framework and SDK that helps address today’s application security requirements using a simplified model that is open and extensible, can improve security, and boosts productivity for developers.
Managing user identities is a top priority for many businesses today. People need to access multiple systems and resources on the corporate network, using different types of devices. But because many of these systems don't communicate with each other, it's not uncommon to have multiple identities for the same person. As a result, managing these redundant identities becomes complex, wastes time, and increases security risks due to errors.
Now businesses can aggregate identities across the enterprise into a single view, simplify user access to multiple applications, reduce IT costs, and increase productivity.
Companies can ensure that every user has proper access to resources, create auditable processes for access rights, and deploy single sign-on capabilities that comply with company policy.
Businesses can reduce the risk of security leaks by ensuring that only authorized users can gain access to company resources and that people know who they are dealing with electronically.
By securely sharing identities across organizational boundaries, businesses can collaborate more efficiently with partners and customers.
