Microsoft is committed to helping customers confidently deploy third-party software on Windows Server 2008 R2. As such, customers can access all current third party software and hardware solutions which have been officially certified on Windows Server 2008 R2 at the Windows Server Catalog. Certification helps customers identify products that deliver a high-quality computing experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
In addition to the “Certified for Windows Server 2008 R2” logo designation, Microsoft has created the “Works with Windows Server 2008 R2” program, and supporting test tools, to help independent software vendors (ISVs) prioritize basic application compatibility testing and development with the new platform. These same tools enable IT Professionals to gauge any application’s compatibility—even custom and homegrown solutions—with Windows Server 2008 R2.
The highly automated “Works with Windows Server 2008 R2” tool is an industry-standard test utility that defines application compatibility on Windows Server 2008 R2. By simply walking an application through its life cycle with the tool running in the background, you can create a detailed report on the application’s performance against specific technical requirements in approximately two to four hours.
An additional 80 test cases for Windows Server 2008 R2 comprises the “Certified for Windows Server 2008 R2” certification test tool. The certification tool is an excellent resource for testing mission-critical, line of business applications, and identifying applications that comply with best practices for security, availability, reliability, and Windows fundamentals in about three to five days, depending upon application complexity.
The Windows Server Catalog provides a comprehensive listing of applications, hardware devices, and systems that have passed technical standards on the Windows Server 2008 R2 platform.
