Enable Your Mobile Workforce: Get the Details

Windows Vista provides your mobile workforce with tools, technologies, and a reliable platform to help them communicate, exchange information, and work effectively while on the go. Your employees can access information with confidence and collaborate with co-workers, customers, and partners with ease. Connecting to wireless networks and synchronizing information between mobile devices is more streamlined and simplified for an enhanced user experience. With the new mobility solutions and features in Windows Vista, your employees can be as productive outside of the office as they are when working at their desks.

Be more productive on the go

New features in Windows Vista make it easier to manage mobility settings and make important information more accessible to more people. Use the new Windows Mobility Center to adjust the controls that matter most to people on the go. For example, from one simple dashboard, employees can configure their wireless connections, set brightness controls, and specify power-saving options for a fast on-and-off experience that extends battery life and helps protect data.

When your people use Tablet PCs running Windows Vista, they can count on precise and intuitive pen navigation with visual feedback and pen flicks. If touch input is available on their Tablet PCs, they can navigate their computers and use many controls with their fingertips rather than using a mouse or a tablet pen. In addition, Windows SideShow in Windows Vista supports a secondary or auxiliary display on the outside of a mobile PC, so your people can see their meeting schedules, important phone numbers, or recent e-mail messages without opening or turning on their computers.

Productivity features for mobile workforce

Feature NameFunction

Sleep, Fast Startup

Restores previous work sessions from battery-saving "Sleep" state within a few seconds, so a mobile PC is up and running whenever it's needed.

Windows Mobility Center and Presentation Settings

Makes it easy to locate the most frequently used mobile PC system settings—such as volume, screen brightness, wireless network connection status, and presentation settings.

Windows Tablet and Touch Technology

Enhances pen functionality—called "Pen Flicks"—to quickly navigate with a tablet pen, and touch to easily control a Tablet PC with improved touch-screen support. (Experience better overall performance with improved handwriting recognition, digital ink erasing, and AutoComplete.)

Windows SideShow

Stay productive while on the go without draining your battery. Use a Windows SideShow-compatible device with your mobile PC to check e-mail, calendar, to-do lists, weather, news, and more—even while your mobile PC is turned off or asleep.

Be more responsive in and out of the office

Windows Vista provides your employees with new ways to keep their information synchronized as they move between locations and use mobile devices. The Sync Center provides a single place to control data synchronization—between PCs and servers and between PCs and devices. In the event a PC issue arises, automatic diagnostic tools help employees solve the problem with easy-to-follow instructions.

New collaboration features help your people remain productive no matter where they're working or traveling. For example, Windows Meeting Space helps face-to-face, virtual meetings for as many as 10 users, on or off the corporate network. It allows meeting leaders to "project" their presentations onto other PCs running Windows Vista, and allows meeting members to collaborate on the fly, regardless of their location. Additionally, Windows Meeting Space offers security-enhanced document sharing and editing that eliminates time-consuming rework following a meeting.

And with SoftGrid, available in the optional subscription to the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack, your employees get universal access to all their licensed applications—even their entire desktop—from any computer anywhere, aggregated on a single webpage and/or within a Windows desktop. Because applications are cached on the local device, people can even access their applications on their disconnected laptops.
