Hi everyone - welcome to today’s Internet Explorer chat. Your questions, comments and feedback are welcome. We’ll get started in a few minutes.

Christian (Moderator):
We are pleased to welcome our Internet Explorer Experts. I will have them introduce themselves now…

Introductions

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Hi my name is Uche Enuha and I am a Program Manager in the User Experience team.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Hi, my name is Max Stevens, I'm a lead Program Manager in charge of the User Experience.

Christian (Moderator):
Please feel free to begin asking your questions and remember to check the “ask the experts” box before sending. Thanks.

Start of Chat

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I want to do what ever it takes to fix the problem
A: what problem are we talking about here?

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Do you guys believe that the WinHEC build of IE7 in Vista Beta 2 is complete enough to wow those daring enough to try the CTP?
A: Hi, I am Qing Xie. I am a tester at Navigation feature team in IE. I work on Cross domain security issue, zone elevation, link targeting.

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Do you have a new Web Browser control for IE7?
A: we updated our WebOC and it’s now called IEFrame.dll

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I have a problem with the IE7 Links toolbar, I have several folders that contain more links to websites in them, but cannot rename them like I could in IE6. Also the links themselves will lose the link address but the name is still there.
A: Renaming items in folders directly from the links toolbar is a known issue at this point, we are investigating fixing it. As for the links themselves losing the link address, can you describe a little more detail what you're seeing?

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Is there a way that we could go and re-install IE in winxpsp2 other than doing ALL THESE THINGS c:\windows\inf\ieor from add/remove programs or by modifying installed value in registry
A: Add/Remove Programs is the supported way of removing a previous install of IE7 to make way for a new install. Why do you not use this method?

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I can not get my email on outlook 2007
A: Please contact the office group

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: The tab button takes me to the refresh button instead of filling in the address and allowing me to press enter to go to that page. Instead when I press enter I get a refresh on the current page that I was already on.
A: That's a known issue. We are already working on it.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Do you have any APIs or documentation on IEFrame.dll? If so, how do I get them?
A: If you're looking for documentation in order to help you in building an extension for IE, we do have a bunch of information available on MSDN, though not all of it has been updated for IE7. For example, for info on IE6 architecture, take a look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/browser/overview/ie_arch.asp

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: In IE6 when I type in an address the address bar immediately lists the addresses in my cache below the address bar. If I tab the address is filled in and I can press enter to go to that address. In IE7 when I follow this same procedure
A: This is the same question as #17. We already notice the issue and I am working on the fix. Thanks.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I have a problem with the IE7 Links toolbar, I have several folders that contain more links to websites in them, but cannot rename them like I could in IE6. Also the links themselves will lose the link address but the name is there
A: The renaming files in folders directly from the links toolbar is a known issue. The work around is to do it from the favorites center directly. As for the links losing the link address, can you be more specific about what you're seeing here?

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Why is that I can display certain websites with IE7-XP and not with IE7+ -Vista?
A: Could you give me which websites you are having trouble with?

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q:I would love to know if it will ever be possible to adjust the address bar line as you can the other items. My version appears to have it locked. I would rather it be closer to the bottom of the header area.
A: Unfortunately we are not at the level of customization support that we would like to be. We'll take this specific point of customization feedback for consideration for future releases.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Have any improvements been made to IE's memory leak situation?

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will IE7 support XAML?
A: we support embedding/hosting WPF applications within IE but we don't natively support XAML

Sharon (Expert):
Q:I am Working for Microsoft and what happens if all these steps fail to uninstall IE any other option other than repair install
A: Please check on the IE blog, there was a blog post about uninstall problems.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: have any improvements been made to IE's memory leak situation?
A: Hanwell: We are making improvements to a lot of performance issues across IE, including memory leaks. Stay tuned for updates of the browser. :)

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will full support for the DOM method setAttribute() be supported in IE7, if so, will it be in Beta3?
A: can you clarify what you mean by full support?

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: What can you tell us about the plans for IE7 on Longhorn Server?
A: nothing as yet. :) But keep an eye on the blog for updates.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: With the recent announcement of the IE7+ branding, how have you guys received the feedback given by the community?
A: We've of course heard many different points of view on the branding, and we continue to be open to feedback. If you have specific feedback of your own, please let us know.

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: perhaps you missed my question.-repost: where I can find more and detailed information about the rss api, especially about the outlook rss and the event system and diagnostic (logging).
A: please look at http://blogs.msdn.com/rssteam

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: currently, there are several setAttribute() calls that you can make on elements, that do NOT get set.
A: If you have specific scenarios, please file them through MS connect and we'll get back to you on whether they have been fixed or not. Thanks

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: When I installed Office 2007, it gave me the option to change the color of the window to either black or silver. Can the same happen with IE7 independent of the regular look formatting?
A: The current IE theme is associated with windows theme. But you can not modify the IE theme specifically. It might be good feature in the future. I will notify the corresponding PM. Thanks.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Are the any changes that IE for Vista will be IE7 (without a plus) after you received tremendous amount of negative feedback on that?
A: We are not planning on changing the name at this time.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I had heard from the IEAK Bus Dev team that IE Beta 3 will be available before the end of the month, is that true?
A: Sorry, cant talk dates just yet. :)

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I installed Outlook 2007 beta2 along with IE7 beta2. I noticed that some HTML messages appear different than it was in outlook 2003 with IE7. Do outlook 2007 makes different use of IE engine and how?
A: One of the largest changes that you might have seen with Outlook 2007 is that they install a new font, segou (to be honest, I forget the exact spelling at the moment). Perhaps that's the difference in rendering that you're seeing?

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: What happens with integration with other download managers... there is always a problem when I try to download something and IE7 passes the control to a manager so that it downloads something, IE7 shows an error and close
A: If you have specific bugs - it would be great to file it through our Connect website so that we can follow up. I'm not familiar with any particular bugs in this area.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will IE7 following the recent trend of the perpetual beta?
A: We sure hope not. :) We plan to release a final version of IE7 later this year.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will IE supports content-type application/xhtml+xml in header?
A: No - in IE7 we do not support XHTML. We will treat it like HTML content.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will IE supports content-type application/xhtml+xml in header?
A: Actually - we will fail - I was corrected.

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: when is the next beta of IE7 due out. Beta 2 is great for me so far...
A: During the second half of the year

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Do you know that IE 7 beta 2 has problem with multi language keyboard?
A: We know about some issues and I believe we are addressing them. If you have specific bugs it would be great to file them through our connect website.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: They just have lost their ability to link to the site broken links have a General Tab and Security Tab. The ones that work have a General, Web Document and Security Tab.
A: Dave, if you can get this to happen reliably, please file a bug with us at our connect.microsoft.com site. Thanks!

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Re Q 39, case in point, feedback bug report ID: http://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=70509
A: We'll make sure to look at this. Thanks

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: The bad links have to be replaced and then will work... but the problem comes back... sometimes to the same link and sometimes to a different one.
A: If you can figure out what causes it, please file the bug and let us know. We'll investigate. Thanks.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I had asked how to use IE's UserHR registry value for high resolution screen DPI in WebBrowser control, but haven't got solution. Question is: how to use this IE's UserHR in WebBrowser hosted application? Thanks.
A: It is only supported for IE today.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Is Windows Vista recommended for severs??
A: Windows Vista is the client OS. We do plan to release the Longhorn Server later.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: Will IE be updated through Microsoft Update or own auto-update system? And will there be added support for CSS 3 in the future?
A: IE will be updated through Microsoft Update, as it currently is. And yes, I expect we will add support for some CSS3 specifications in the future, as they become recommendations.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: When will the DOM method .addEventListener() be added? a.) Beta3, b.) by final IE7, or c.) IE8 or beyond?
A: We will consider it for a release after IE7. It would be great if you could add a feature request through our Connect website.

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: If I start IE and get focus to the search textbox, after few milliseconds is set focus to the address textbox and I unsuspected write my query to two different textboxes. Will this be improved in future release?
A: When I suspect in this case is that you click the search textbox without IE being fully loaded. After IE is fully loaded, the focus will be set to address bar by default. You can try to get the focus a little bit later. Thanks.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: Currently When I try printing a page that contains links to pdf documents, using print all linked document option, it prints the blank page for each of the linked document. (IE 6 SP2 on Windows XP SP2). Is this going to be supported in IE7 or is there any
A: Ketan - no, I don't believe we will change this in IE7. We do need to address this in the future, though.

Travis L (Expert):
Q: Will Longhorn be recommended in the future? And what does it feature?
A: It's safe to assume that we will recommend Vista :) IE7 for Vista adds Parental Controls and Protected Mode... Read more about it on IE7 webpage!

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: [Q11] no it's not different font (font is nice though :)). The borders are different too, and it feels like some CSS and CSS2 stuff was scraped from the message during rendering, so CSS decorated text and other objects are shown different.
A: At least from an IE perspective, we don't treat office 2007 differently from any other version of Office. Office themselves might have updated how they integrate with IE, but the office team are the experts there.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: Will FTP support be included in IE7-final; or would the FTP client be more appropriate as a stand-alone application?
A: We do have support for the FTP protocol, although it is not a replacement for a full FTP client at this point. We may improve it at some point in the future.

Travis L (Expert):
Q: And/or allowing the Ctrl-H key?
A: I'm not familiar with Ctrl+H. What should this shortcut do?

Sharon (Expert):
Q: I'm setting up employee info kiosks that serve up private personal information on open access devices. Currently all works well except that the cached web pages are visible in history. How do I stop IE from Caching pages and/or showing history?
A: you will need to set this up from the server side. Your page can specify that it should not be cached.

Christian (Moderator):
Just a heads-up on time here, we’re now about halfway through today’s chat. Thanks.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I had heard from the IEAK Bus Dev team that IE Beta 3 will be available before the end of the month, is that true?
A: Bill: Beta2 of Windows Vista is currently available for IT professionals, developers and tech enthusiasts through the Customer Preview Program. Check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/default.mspx for details.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will IE7 on XP, run inside a VMWare session? I don't want to wreck my local environment (e.g. blow away IE6)... if so, is there plans to release a restricted image, so that we can test, seeing that running them (IE6 & 7) on the same env. is NOT supported.
A: Certainly IE7 runs inside virtualPC right now (I use it myself in this fashion when I need to access old releases, such as the first beta 2 preview). We have no plans to release a specific image of this.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Can I get a beta of Windows Vista?
A: Bill: Beta2 of Windows Vista is currently available for IT professionals, developers and tech enthusiasts through the Customer Preview Program. Check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/default.mspx for details.

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Qing: Yes, but it is uncomfortable. Can address textbox get focus after IE load only when is not focus on search textbox?
A: That's a very good recommendation. I will notify the corresponding PM to take a look. Thanks.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I had heard from the IEAK Bus Dev team that IE Beta 3 will be available before the end of the month, is that true?
A: Sorry, Replied to the wrong question. :)

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Will IE be updated through Microsoft Update or own auto-update system? And will there be added support for CSS 3 in the future?
A: It looks like the bug hasn't made its way to my team yet. I hope we'll be able to take a look at it soon.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: It is good if users can 1) rearrange the tabs (sort them) and 2) save some tabs for later use as groups. Will this feature be added?
A: We continue to investigate a method to rearrange tabs, if not for 7 then for our next release. As for saving some tabs for later use as groups, you can do that now - simply select "Add Tab Group to Favorites" from the "+" menu next to the tabs. This will save all of your active tabs into a folder in favorites. In order to open them again, click the blue arrow next to the folder name in the favorites center

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Re Answer to Q 39, regarding setAttribute(). I filed a bug report on this, over a month ago. it has not even been commented or verified by MS yet.
A: Answer to 26 was meant to go here It looks like the bug it hasn't made it's way to my team yet. I hope we'll be able to take a look at it soon.

Sharon (Expert):
Q: Will Longhorn Be Recommended In The Future? And What Features And Possiablities Does It Hold And Offer Us???
A: IE7 on Vista offers protected mode and parental controls features which are not availble on XP. Yes it will be recommended.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Overall the IE7 has been great, but it is annoying to see the links I create just stop working when I am not doing anything to change the link at all.
A: Dave: What are you seeing when you say the links "stop working"?

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Why MSHTML in design mode can not edit .mht(web archive) file? When we load the .mht file, make changes, when save it, the format is not .mht format or html format.
A: MHT files are not handled natively within Internet Explorer and that is why they can not be edited in Design mode.

Patrick (Expert):
Q: What Can You Tell Me About Longhorn???
A: Here is a good place to start reading about Vista (formerly Longhorn): http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta and now I can't access our FTP site ("Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"). I installed the registry spoof utility. That solved the problem accessing another Web site, but I still can't access our FTP site.
A: We have some known issues with FTP sites that require authentication in beta 2. You can work around this in one of two ways - open windows explorer, and directly type in the ftp site there (it will prompt for credentials and then give you the folder view), or you can use the ftp://user:password@site.com URL form in IE in order to navigate there directly.

jane [msft] (Expert):
Q: The RSS API have some "secrets" and strong results. Is there any "deeper" information, especially the API Events and the interaction with the Outlook 2007 rss. I have developed with vb a tray notification app and need it for that
A: Outlook 12 integrates with the RSS Platform with the Common Feed List. On boot, they enumerate the list of the feeds that the user is subscribed to, and add feeds

Patrick (Expert):
Q: Is Windows Vista Approved Over Windows XP??
A: Yes - XP to Vista is (not surprisingly) a valid upgrade path

Travis L (Expert):
Q: what is your favorite feature that has been pushed back to IE8?
A: That's got to be the Find dialog :)

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Certain extensions of www.ign.com can't be displayed such as http://media.games.ign.com/articles/693/693580/vids_1.html, I couldn't get to it last night but hmmm now I can. I would just time out immediately but I know we website is up because of I could
A: Perhaps the site had some transient issues the other night. It seems to work fine right now for me.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: the rss reader is amazing. How ever can you give the user the option to re-format the template of it?
A: We have no plans in IE7 to support allowing customization of the RSS reader. This is good feedback for us to consider for future releases, thanks.

Travis L (Expert):
Q: That is the thing. I DON'T know why this happens. They just stop working on their own. The properties window loses the Web Document tab and I then have to replace it. This never happened ever with IE6.
A: This sounds like a great bug! Have you filed a bug on this? We'd be happy to look into this further...

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Re: Q55, .addEventListener(),the bug report has been in there, again, for over a month in the feedback site, and since day 1 of the IE blog.
A: Steve - it's great feedback. Did you file the eventlistener bug report? I'm not seeing it in the list of bugs you've opened but I may not be looking for the right title.

jane [msft] (Expert):
Q: the RSS API have some "secrets" and strong results. Is there any "deeper" information, especially the API Events and the interaction with the Outlook 2007 rss. I have developed with vb a tray notification app and need it for that
A: Outlook 12 integrates with the RSS Platform with the Common Feed List. On boot, they enumerate the list of the feeds that the user is subscribed to, and add/remove feeds. While Outlook is running, they listen to the Feed events to see if there are any new feeds that the user is subscribed to or deleted in IE.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: What do you see as the biggest barrier against downloadable fonts?
A: Well, we have supported downloadable font embeddings since IE4 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/fontembed/font_embed.asp). I think the biggest barrier to their adoptions is making that technology more open, which we've discussed. The biggest barrier to adopting totally downloadable fonts is that people don't tend to think of TTF files as containing copyrighted, licensed code&data - but they do. We need a solution that works for people who make their livelihood building fonts, too.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: I don't expect a yes on this, but other browsers support a JavaScript feature called .watch() and .unwatch() on objects (for when a property changes)... it is a REALY cool feature. Normally I would say that it isn't in the spec. therefore omit it, but....
A: I think we've heard this feedback as well - it's on the list of things we're taking a look at. It won't be in IE7.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: Re :Q[36] Does that mean IE using its own render methods or device (not WebBrowser control) for UerHR=1 on higher DPI?
A: No, just that we didn't provide enough hooks to enable this mode for hosting controls - because they need to be able to find out where elements are on the page, etc.

Qing [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Could IE support to open about:blank page when I click by mouse middle button to last open tab (in this tab)?
A: We already assign the mouse action to close the tab, that's a great feature. People love it. You can open another new tab with about:blank with just one mouse click on the new tab button. Thanks.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: In the last chat you said that IE7 Beta 3 will be available in the "middle of 2006." Now you're saying "During the second half of the year." As I had mentioned in my earlier question, your own IEAK Bus Dev team is saying the next few weeks. Which is it?
A: We expect to ship in the middle of 2006. "During the second half of the year" is a little too general - although we can't commit to specific dates, we can say with assurance that we'll ship before December :)

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: @Laurel: [Q55], yup, here it is... http://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=57328
A: It's not going to be in IE7 but we're considering it for a future release.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: Re :Q[36] Does that mean IE using its own render methods or device (not WebBrowser control) for UerHR=1 on higher DPI?
A: (in device pixels, I mean, rather than scaled-up "fat pixels")

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Thanks, I was going to do that before but saw the announcement for this chat and thought I would just bring it here. I have not but will do that when I get back this afternoon...
A: perfect!!

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Requesting foo.innerHTML on elements returns incorrect data (mostly a formatting nightmare) (tags are not in the case specified, or specifically lowercase!!!! many of the attributes are not quoted properly, and self-closing tags are not self closed.)...
A: Again - I don't think this will make IE7, but it's great feedback and we'll look at it for a future release.

Sharon (Expert):
Q: Is there a KB article describing how to set up the server not to cache web pages it serves up?
A: did a quick search. This one looks good: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q234067/

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: How can you remove messenger from the IE7 toolbar. In our organization we hide this feature from our users
A: Right-click on the command bar, choose "customize command bar", "add/remove commands".

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: mine appears conveniently missing? ;-)
A: I'm sure that wasn't on purpose :). Does this issue reflect what you'd like to see?

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Can I get a meaningful response to https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=63265 or is MSFT dropping support for third party toolbars? (Already asked the q related to that issue twice in this chat)
A: I don't know the answer to your question mgentry, but I will try and track down somebody to follow up with you on this thread.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: does the final release have any performance upgrade? some times IE works very slowly .
A: We know we have a lot of performance work to do in the final release. We have concentrated more on features and functionality for the betas. Thanks for your feedback.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: ah, wait, that one wasn't the one I submitted, but never the less the bug is listed as "ambiguous" timeframe.
A: Timeframe is not likely in IE7, but we'll take a look at for a release after IE7.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: (Maurits) do you have any projections on how long it will take IE7 to surpass IE6 in market share?
A: We can't speculate on that.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Are you working on an IE7 for portable/handheld devices?
A: Pocket IE is a separate product team.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: how many more betas are currently planned before the final release...will beta3 be the last one?
A: There are no more betas currently planned.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Can I get a "yes, there are changes expected" answer, to the question: The horrible toolbar UI ATM in IE7 is very chaotic, non-uniform, and difficult to navigate. Can we expect there to be changes here before the final?
A: ATM? What do you mean by that?

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: when will MSDN complete update its programming documentation on IE7?
A: We're continuously updating our documentation. If there are particular areas you'd like to see updated or bugs in the documentation please file those through our Connect web site.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: When will IE7's Zoom API be available for developers?
A: No - but you can use the IE Specific CSS Zoom attribute within your page - http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/properties/zoom.asp

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Thank you very much for all your efforts. I hope all the success for you. Thank you for this session.
A: Thanks aboo! Glad you could make it to this chat. We hold this typically every month. Keep an eye on the IE blog for updates from our team as well.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: "Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert): A: There are no more betas currently planned" - Other than Beta 3, correct?
A: Correct.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: ATM = At The Moment.
A: If you have specific feedback on what you find difficult to use, that would be great to hear. Your comment is pretty general and difficult to specifically respond to.

Laurel [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: could I please get a more definite answer on when https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=57394 will be addressed? It seems that ie7 isn't coming out for quite a while if you're hedging the question of when the next beta is.
A: I'm not certain what the current status on this issue is but I'll follow up. It's not likely to be addressed in IE7.

Travis L (Expert):
Q: why does the minimum temporary internet files folder have to be set at 8mb vs the 1mb with previous IE?
A: Our cache size range is largely a factor of our performance tests within IE. So the increase to 8MB minimum was essentially a performance-driven decision.

Anurag [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Thank you for the chat and keep up the great work on IE!!
A: Thanks Bill! And thanks for attending.

Chris Wilson [MS] (Expert):
Q: will you try to get the css "display: table;" or any more of the display tags into the next beta? if not, do you think they will be in the final release?
A: No. We announced with the MIX06 release we were layout-complete, and would not be adding more CSS features. Display:table will (sadly) not be supported in IE7.

Max Stevens [MSFT] (Expert):
Q: Argh!!!!... k, do you guys also all read the blog comments?... regarding the interface of the toolbars. 1.) they are not moveable. 2.) the styling for every button is different. 3.) we hate the position of the location bar 4.) the tab highlight is messed up
A: In regards to customization, we are not where we would ideally like to be in IE7, and are examining what we can do here in future releases. As for the look and feel of the toolbars & tabs, there are some changes coming in beta3, which we'll love to hear feedback on. Keep watching the blog for info.

Travis L (Expert):
Q: Uninstalling IE7: When I uninstalled IE7 (and reverted to IE6), I could no longer go to Start, Run and type an address... IE6 would open to a blank page then Windows would tell me with an alert box that the page or file could not be found.
A: Hmm, I'm surprised to hear this! Have you filed a bug? We'd love to try to repro this...

Christian (Moderator):
We have about 5 minutes left for today’s chat. The Experts will answer as many questions as they can in the time remaining. Thanks!

Patrick (Expert):
Q: Max Stevens .. some follow up would be immensely appreciated, thanks
A: I'm reactivating your bug 63265 to get a better answer for you

Uche[MSFT] (Expert):

Q: When will documentation for browser helper objects and toolbars be updated to reflect the changes in IE7? I would like advice on upgrading a BHO from IE6 to IE7.
A: As with all aspects of our documentation, we're working to update them as quickly as possible--given the size of the MSDN this can take awhile... Thanks for letting us know about this--we'll take a look soon.

Q: I've noticed that with WindowBlinds the tabs in IE7 after the first tab are offset +1 pixel per tab. Is this because of IE7 being in beta and tabs being set back a little or is it something that Stardock will have to fix?
A: Although I cannot say for sure. This sounds at first blush like an issue that Stardock would have to fix. If you haven't done so already though, please enter a bug on this at the connect site. Thanks!

Q: I red an old article about IE6 release. It stated that IE6 is the best browser because it supports standards. I hope I will read this again in the future about IE8. Thanks. Have a non-problem developing!
A: Thanks Vasek

Q: As monitors/websites get bigger and paper (A4 or 8.5x11) stays the same size, will see a day when IE prints landscape by default?
A: We can all only speculate about this one--but it gives one pause to ponder... ;)

Q: K, thanks Max. Can I make a request then... when Beta 3 comes out, can (one of you), make a separate blog post, about the new toolbar layout. That way, you can hopefully get feedback on just the issue at hand, which is the Chrome aspect of the browser.
A: We expect to do this. Thanks.

Q: As monitors/websites get bigger and paper (A4 or 8.5x11) stays the same size, will see a day when IE prints landscape by default?
A: Difficult to speculate on that just yet. We will look at the needs of the situation and do whatever is right. IF it makes more sense to print landscape by default, we will definitely consider that.

A: We're happy to hear that! We also believe that IE7 is the best of the IE's to date!
