About Windows XP Expert Kent W. England

Kent W. England

Kent W. England, an Internet architect and small business system administrator, makes his home in Encinitas, California, in north coastal San Diego County. Kent has a degree in electrical engineering; he is a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) and one of the original Expert Zone Associate Experts. He is active in the Windows XP newsgroups nearly every day and has posted more than 400 responses in a month, mostly in the Windows XP General and Windows XP Help and Support newsgroups.

His PC: IBM Thinkpad i1300 (1171-370); quadruple booting Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, and a test partition, currently running a Microsoft beta release. I love the IBM Thinkpad keyboard, and Windows XP Clear Type on an LCD screen is ideal. It also takes a lot less room than a typical desktop system, but I look forward to getting a new laptop with better sound features.

His own words:"I began participating in the Microsoft newsgroups to help out with advanced networking issues in Win98SE and the new Internet Connection Sharing feature for home and small business users. I was recognized for my contributions with a nomination to become a MVP in 1999 and I have been an MVP since. I was invited to beta test Windows XP and began to devote a lot of attention to XP system administration (NTFS permissions, maintenance, recovery, and best practices for the individual sysadmin). I continue to support Windows XP networking and system administration and continue to participate in beta testing for Microsoft, focusing on home office and small business uses."
