About Windows XP Expert Russ Valentine

Russ Valentine

Russ Valentine, M.D., is a Zionsville, Indiana cardiologist, and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He became an expert on fax software because of the critical roll a fax can play in medical care.

Dr. Valentine is a top contributor in the Windows XP Printing and Fax newsgroup where he helped other users by posting more than 450 responses in one month.

He uses a PC with a dual-boot setup of Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and is a Microsoft Office MVP. Russ is an occasional contributor to his favorite computing-related Web site, Sue Mosher’s Slipstick Systems Outlook and Exchange Solutions Center.

The following excerpt from an article by Sue Mosher helps explain Dr. Valentine’s interest in fax software:

"He needed to receive an electrocardiogram via fax while the emergency helicopter was transporting the patient to the hospital. What he read from the EKG would determine the critical care that the patient would get. The doctor was already running Microsoft Outlook® 2000, which he had configured for home use with Internet Mail Only mode and the Symantec WinFax Starter Edition fax component. But, for some reason, WinFax SE failed to receive the fax on several attempts. The cardiologist finally got the fax by firing up the fax service in Windows XP and rushed off to the hospital, muttering that performing the emergency catheterization on the patient would be easier than receiving the fax had been."
