Create a Story from a Single Still Photo with Photo Story 3

In this article, Lead Program Manager Vladimir Rovinsky describes how to
create a mini story based on a single picture with Photo Story 3. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/tips/create.mspx

This is a very good program, but i was wondering how i am to save any affects
used on a picture to a differant folder like my photo album? So i could have
it on photo story 3 as well as in my pictures. please reply with atleast an
answer of any sort.

Pause the story as it plays in the Windows Media Player and take a snapshot
at the point you want... and save the snapshot in your picture folder. The
Print Screen feature, IrfanView, Movie Maker, and other apps have the
ability to capture a single picture.

I have a few questions about photostory for vladmir if he reads this thread
(or anybody else who knows):

Related to this article:

1. When making such a single picture photostory, how is the movie encoded?
Does it store only a single copy of the picture for all the pans or multiple
cropped copies are stored for individual pans.

Unrelated to the article:

2. Whats wrong with the profiles used for DVD. Why is the picture so blurry
when saved using these profiles.

3. Why is there a limit on time resolution in specifying the picture
duration. One can specify 2.2 secs but not 2.235. The latter form should be
acceptable when typed in... but it is rounded to nearest tenth of a sec. Why
? I want to match the picture durations with the beat of the background
music which is hardly ever exactly a tenth of the sec. Is there any
technical reason for this limitation ?

4. In an interview he mentioned that PhotoStory 3 supports plugin
architecture, where can I have more information about this.

Regards

JUST AGREEING WITH YOUR COMMENTS. I removed photo story 2 initially, but when
I discovered the new version did not have an option for VCD or DVD burning
re-installed it, only to find that PS3 does not recognize PS2 files!?
This is the only criticism I have on an otherwise amazing program. The loss
of quality using WMP10 to burn is a shame.
PLEASE let us know if a burning option is planned.

To get around this problem, for DVD burning, I saved my photos using the
"Profile for Computers 4 1024 x 768". I then burnt that file to a DVD using
Nero Vision Express. In Nero, I changed the burning setting to High Quality
and Progressive Scan. The resulting DVD was MUCH better than saving it as a
DVD in PS3.

Can someone help me, I bought two kinds of cds to use on the story, but
nothing is working, it saves my files, but merging them together seems to be
the problem, any suggestions.

Hi, I have a problem I am hoping I could get some help with. I downloaded
PS3 and made my story only to find out that I dont have the VCD burning
capability. I have no clue how to make a VCD now. I saved using the
profiles and tried to burn that but it doesnt not work. I tried to download
PS2, which I used before with out a problem, but now this version will only
allow 5 pictures. Will someone pleas send me instructions oh how to burn a
VCD from PS3 or give me some alternative suggestions?

Thank you

All the different programs and versions
can get quite confusing.

As you discovered...Photo Story 3 does
not have the option to burn a VCD. If you
previously burned a VCD with PS2 you must
have had MS Plus! Digital Media Edition
or Microsoft Digital Image Suite software
installed.

It's possible that your burner came with
software that has an option to burn a VCD.
Check your manual for instructions.

As I understand it...the 30 day trial version
of Corel Photo Album 6 has the option to
burn a VCD.

Thankyou so much. I downloaded the plug-in. When following the instructions
to save a photostory to DVD I get 'The profile for the specified activity or
quality setting is missing or corrupt. Try selecting a different activity or
quality setting. Or, reinstall Save your story to a DVD for playback on your
home DVD player activity from the original installation location, and then
try saving your story again.' Is someone able to help me with this problem
please. Pan
