Update Rollup 1 for Windows Media Center Extender for Xbox

An update is available for Windows Media Center Extender for Xbox. The update contains fixes for the following issues:
  • Playback of CGMS-A protected TV content is prohibited.
  • Some supported audio files do not play back correctly.
This update is available for download from Xbox Live.
Important: If you download Update Rollup 1 from Xbox Live, playback of CGMS-A protected TV will remain prohibited. Viewing CGMS-A protected programs requires that you also update the PC-side MCX software. Get the MCX software.

If you download the update from Xbox Live

If you download Update Rollup 1 for Media Center Extender for Xbox from Xbox Live, you will need to add Extender for Xbox to your Media Center PC again. Once you download the Rollup from Xbox Live, use the following steps to add the Extender for Xbox to the Media Center PC.

On the Xbox console:

  1. When the Welcome screen appears, write down the setup key that is displayed on screen. You will need this key to add the Media Center Extender for Xbox to the Media Center PC.
  2. Go to the Media Center PC to continue installation.
  3. On the Media Center PC, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Media Center, and then click Media Center Extender Manager.
  4. On the File menu, click Add a new Extender.
  5. Follow the instructions in the Windows Media Center Extender Setup Wizard.

Update Rollup 1 for Windows Media Center Extender

An update is available for 2 types of Media Center Extender devices: HP and Linksys, both available in North America. This update is available directly from HP and Linksys. Support links are provided below. This update enhances the stability and performance of Media Center Extenders and also resolves the following issues:
  • Playback of CGMS-A protected television content is prohibited
  • Some supported audio and video files do not play back correctly.
  • Using skip when watching recorded TV sometimes causes a temporary black screen.
  • Waking from standby sometimes causes video playback errors.
  • Watching video for long periods of time over wireless networks could cause video glitching.

The primary source for support for Media Center Extender set-top boxes are the manufacturers of the devices. Contact your Media Center Extender manufacturer directly or select the appropriate support Web site below for information on updated software and other support issues.
