Media Center Extenders use network ports to communicate over the network with PCs running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. These ports can be blocked by firewalls running on your Media Center PC.
The McAfee Personal Firewall Plus application (either standalone or as part of the McAfee Internet Suite) may be preconfigured to allow Media Center Extender to connect to your Media Center PC.
Note: The McAfee Privacy Service does not allow connections between the Xbox 360 console and a Windows Media Center-based PC. Connections between the Xbox 360 console and other Windows-based computers by using Windows Media Connect are also blocked. To allow these connections, you must uninstall the McAfee Privacy Service. For more information, contact McAfee technical support/customer service. To manually configure or verify the configuration of Personal Firewall Plus, follow these instructions:
- Click Start, click All Programs, point to McAfee, and then click McAfee Personal Firewall Plus.
 - On the left side of the window, click Internet Applications. A list of applications and their permissions for accessing local networks and the Internet are displayed.
 - Make sure that the following applications are included in the list of applications:
