Changing Folder Options to Windows Classic View

The Task Pane on the left of the screen as shown in Figure 4 below appears when you open any folder in Windows XP. It includes a list of common tasks that you can perform on the files in your folder. The Task Pane remains even if you click Switch to Classic View. To view a folder without the Task Pane—as in previous versions of Windows—you must change Folder Options to remove the Task Pane.

To change folder options 1. | Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options. Or, open any folder, such as My Documents, and on the Tools menu, click Folder Options. | 2. | On the General tab, under Tasks, select Use Windows classic folders.
Choosing this option hides the Task Pane as shown in Figure 5 below. It also makes the Category view in Control Panel unavailable. Click Show common tasks in folders to restore the Task Pane and the option for Category View in Control Panel.
