Use Windows XP in "Classic view"

Published: September 7, 2006

Most people like the look and feel of Windows XP, but if you prefer the look of prior versions of Windows (such as Windows 2000 or Windows 98), you can go back to that "classic" look while still keeping the other benefits of Windows XP.

To switch Windows XP to the Windows Classic view

1.

Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.

Desktop shortcut menu with Properties selected

2.

In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Theme list down arrow, and then click Windows Classic.

Themes tab in Display Properties dialog box with Windows Classic selected

3.

Click OK.

Windows XP switches the theme to Windows Classic, which closely resembles earlier versions of Windows.
