The Help and Support Center in Microsoft Windows XP gives you fast access to online Help information about the product. In addition to this resource, Microsoft also offers a collection of support documents created in response to questions or issues that customers have had with Windows XP. This information is useful for troubleshooting problems and is offered through the Microsoft Help and Support site.
Within the Microsoft Help and Support site, there are Solutions Centers that contain collections of articles about specific products, including Windows XP. The Solutions Centers allow you to explore a topic that you are interested in, troubleshoot a problem, learn how to do something new, or find a software download.
Learn more about a topic
Browsing the All Topics list along the left side of the Windows XP Solutions Center is the best way to explore a specific topic. After you click on a title, the Solutions Center displays the most popular articles about that topic. You might also be able to choose a more focused area within that overall topic (such as Faxes within the Communications area).
Troubleshoot a problem
The Troubleshooting section of the Windows XP Solutions Center contains thousands of articles describing how to fix both common and unusual problems. To find the article that most closely addresses your problem, use the Search Support box in the upper-right corner of the Web page. If you have received an error message, type the exact message text into the Search Support box for more information about the error and what to do about it. Otherwise, type a description of the problem you are having.
Learn how to complete a task
The How-to articles section of the Windows XP Solutions Center contains thousands of articles with step-by-step instructions to guide you through accomplishing specific tasks. Because there are so many articles, you should use the Search Support box in the upper-right corner of the Web page to find what you are looking for. The title for every How-to article begins with the words "how to." So you can find these articles by searching for "How to your topic," such as "How to change the screen saver" or "How to add a printer."
Find a download
You can fix many problems by installing a software update. The Windows XP Solutions Center includes thousands of software updates created to solve problems computer users have had with hardware or software. You can download updates manually in response to a problem, or you can configure your computer to stay up to date automatically for even better results.
