Getting Started with Media Transfer

Media Transfer allows you to easily copy media files from your desktop computer to your Tablet PC. Queue up your favorite music, movies, and digital photo albums and transfer them over a wired or wireless network. Then off you go, fully stocked with entertainment.
To use Media Transfer, you must:
1. | Have Media Transfer installed on your Tablet PC. |
2. | Have Windows XP and Windows Media Connect installed on the desktop PC that will be sharing out media files. |
Get Started
Here is our step-by-step guide to getting Media Transfer and Windows Media Connect ready to use. Here is the software you will need before installing Windows Media Connect:
| • | Microsoft Windows XP Home, Professional, or Media Center Edition |
| • | Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 |
| • | Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 |
Not sure if you have one or any of these? Read on to learn how to check. If you already have Windows Media Connect installed, you may skip to the Set Up section.

Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

You will now see the General tab of the System Properties window.

If installed, the first line under System will read Microsoft Windows XP.

| • | Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 To see if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed: 1. |
Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

You will now see the General tab of the System Properties window.

If installed, the last line under System will read Service Pack 2.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

In Classic view, double-click Administrative Tools.

If installed, Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Configuration will be displayed as an icon

Set Up
1. | Download Media Transfer onto the Tablet PC. You may install all of the products within the Experience Pack, some, or just Media Transfer.

2. | Run Media Transfer by clicking on the Start Menu->All Programs->Microsoft Experience Pack for Tablet PC->Media Transfer. |
3. | Make sure that the Tablet PC is connected to the network. If your Tablet PC is not connected to the network, you will be unable to access the shared media files until you specifically grant the Tablet PC access within the Windows Media Connect devices tab. |
4. | Download Windows Media Connect onto the desktop PC that has media files to share.

After the installation is finished, the Windows Media Connect Wizard will start. The first page is titled Select the devices you want to allow access to your computer.

In the list, you will see Media Transfer <your computer's name>. Select this device, and click Next. If you don't see your Tablet PC listed, make sure that it is connected to your network and that Media Transfer is open.

The next page is titled Choose which folder you want to share with your devices.

By default, the My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos folders will be selected. If the media files you want to share are located in these folders, click Finish.

Windows Media Connect is now configured to share media files with your Tablet PC.
Using Media Transfer
Now that Windows Media Connect is installed on your home computer, you're ready to start using Media Transfer. To select the files you want to copy:

On the Choose a computer page in Media Transfer, select the computer that you want to connect to.

2. | Browse to the folder that contains the media files that you want to copy to your Tablet PC. |
3. |
Select the files, and then tap Done.

4. |
To specify whether you want to copy the files right away or schedule them to be copied later, tap Copy Now or Copy Later.
