Personalize your settings
If you're the type of person who likes distinctive ring tones for your cell phone, you'll probably want to customize the look of Windows Messenger to fit your personality. With a few simple changes, you can make Windows Messenger your own by choosing the colors, fonts, and text sizes you prefer.

Change the theme
Windows Messenger gives you the option of applying the Windows Color Scheme to the Windows Messenger window. Applying the Windows Color Scheme will display the Windows Messenger window in the Windows royal blue. To change the theme, on the Tools menu, click Use Windows Color Scheme.
This option works using a toggle key, which means that you click the option once to turn it on, and then click it a second time to turn it off. When the Windows Color Scheme is selected, a check mark appears to the left of the option in the Tools menu.
Choose your font
When you have a lengthy conversation going on with one or more people, it can be hard to keep your side of the conversation straight. You can make your words stand out by displaying them in a different font, color, or size.
To make font changes in Windows Messenger:
1. | In the Windows Messenger window, on the Tools menu, click Options. Note: The Tools menu is displayed in the Windows Messenger window and not in the Conversation window. To make font changes using the Tools menu, you have to be in the Windows Messenger window.

2. | In the Options dialog box, the Personal tab is displayed by default. Click the Change Font button. |
3. | In the Change My Message Font dialog box, choose the font, style, size, and color you want to use for displayed text.

4. | Click OK to save your changes. |
Now, everything you type in the Conversation window will be displayed in the new font you selected.
You can also change the font while you're in the middle of a conversation by clicking Edit, and then clicking Change Font.
Change your font size on the fly
If you're in the middle of a conversation and you decide that you'd like to make the text size larger or smaller, you can make font size changes on the fly.
To change font size:
1. | In the Conversation window, open the View menu. |
2. | Point to Text Size, and then click the font size that you want.
The size of all text in the Conversation window is automatically reformatted to reflect the new size you selected.
