Artstream.org

"Artstream is a great opportunity for me, as an artist, to create something unique – to apply a range of skills I have in user experience, design and technology, in an area of passion and great significance to me. And it’s something that I'd love more people to enjoy as well."

As its creator, the artist and user-experience expert Olga Generozova, describes it, Artstream is designed to make art more relevant and more accessible. It’s a multichannel, multiplatform approach that helps art fans share their reactions instantly, find out what other people are thinking and keep track of the works they’re most interested in.

How it works depends on the event or exhibition. We caught Artstream in action at Future of Sound / Future of Light – an evening of presentations, films and performances held at Goldsmiths College in southeast London. Using the Artstream platform, audience members texted in their comments as the show progressed, and watched as their notes appeared, seconds later, on a large projection screen near the stage. The discussion was also automatically captured on Artstream.org, so audience members, performers, and event organizers all have a record of the dialogue.

In more traditional gallery settings, participants are just as likely to contribute to the conversation using a mobile kiosk or their internet-enabled phones, as they did recently at the Kinetica Art Fair.

We spent some time with Olga to find out how she took this brilliant idea and made it a reality. Take a look for yourself.
