Last month, we launched an exciting new bursary programme: For the next several weeks, five young people from Tate Modern’s Raw Canvas initiative will be working alongside creatives and technical experts at EMC Conchango, learning how to bring their ideas to life with Expression Studio.
Through events, forums, workshops, and courses led by artists, designers and critics, Raw Canvas offers young people (between 15 and 23) the chance to explore modern art in new ways. We invited members to apply, and selected 5 of the best young creative minds in London.
What do they hope to get out of the programme? "I’m looking forward to learning from designers who work with these tools every day,” says Ella Perkins, a second-year design student at Camberwell.
For Rosemary Cronin, who’s in the midst of a BA in art and design at Chelsea, the crossover between creativity and technology was especially intriguing, and she’s now “hungry to start animating.”
“I realised there wasn’t much I could do with software in practical terms,” says Bosola Ajenifuja, who runs her own arts and culture night each month. “I see this as a great opportunity to use digital tools to bring things to life.”
And for Roger White, who designs for theatre and film: “I want to be able to realise the projects I can’t at the moment.”
They’ve had a crash course in the basics of Blend and Design, and have now started in on their first official project: a 15-30 second animation sequence on creativity and inspiration.
They’ll be blogging as they go, and we’ll post their experiences right here.
