Acknowledgement of Country

Microsoft acknowledges the Traditional Owners as the custodians of Australia, recognising their connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respect to Australia's first peoples, and to their elders, past, present and future.

We thank the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and individuals that have guided us through our RAP journey.

Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Diversity and inclusion are at the core of who we are and what we want to achieve. Everything we do is to help ensure that technology will be an equalising force in the world, not one that drives people further apart.

In Australia, we recognise we have one of the oldest and most experienced cultures in the world. First Australians have been creating and innovating for more than 60,000 years and yet in recent history, many in this community have been excluded from access to technology and the opportunities it offers and enables.

We believe we can play a significant role in helping to achieve a reconciled, just and equitable Australia through:

  • Enabling First Australian innovation and driving change through the power of technology;
  • Empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth with 21st century skills required to thrive in the digital economy; and
  • Fostering an internal culture that embraces diversity and has pride in Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage.

The launch of our Reflect RAP strengthens our commitment not only to diversity and inclusion in Australia but to deepening our understanding, respect and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia.

Our RAP will provide a framework for learning and action and support Reconciliation Australia in its mission to overcome the division and inequality that exists between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Australia.

Our RAP Artwork

The Connecting Culture and Technology artwork was designed for Microsoft Australia by Jasmine Sarin of JS Koori Designs to help visualise our reconciliation commitment.

Connecting Culture and Technology is about the relationship between the world’s oldest living culture and our modern world’s advancing technology. The artwork itself demonstrates how technology is a catalyst for growing our strong, interwoven and intense culture around the world. The artwork is a mix of both contemporary art and graphic design mediums. This is to demonstrate the synergy of culture and technology. The structure for the artwork represents the basis of a mother board and signifies the core to which everything operates. Similarly, the circles represent different ways of sharing knowledge, from storytelling to painting, to dance. There are still blank circles featured to represent the opportunity we have to be resilient with our culture but still continue to adapt to an ever-changing world, remembering we are all connected to this land.
