Former President & CEO, Canesta
Jim Spare is an experienced executive in leading disruptive technology-related businesses from concept to scale and exit. Most recently, he was President & CEO of Canesta, a venture-backed technology company which invented & produced a low cost single-chip real-time 3D sensing technology enabling ordinary electronic devices to "see" across many applications ranging from 3D Natural User Interface (3D NUI) to automotive obstacle detection and others. Canesta was acquired by Microsoft in 2010.
Prior to Canesta, Jim led INBOXTV (Web 1.0 era company which delivered serial short-form entertainment programming to subscribers' email inboxes) as COO, at Microsoft/WebTV (first Internet-on-TV products & services), and General Instrument (first interactive set-top boxes, now Motorola Mobility). He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from N.C. State and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Jim currently serves on the Board of Directors at Nuvixa (www.Nuvixa.com) and is an Advisor to Miso (www.gomiso.com) and other innovative emerging companies.
