Alpega Group: creating a more sustainable transport industry with a container solution managed by Microsoft and Red Hat Leading global logistics software company Alpega Group help coordinate the end-to-end transportation of freight in over 80 countries. Over 500 in-house experts provide 24/7 support to Alpega’s 200,000 software. At the heart of the company’s operations is Alpega Transport Management System (TMS), a cloud-based software solution that ensures goods are moved from factory to warehouse to customer in a structured, automated and optimal way. It is a business-critical infrastructure. And Alpega has chosen to run it on Microsoft Azure Red Hat OpenShift. Azure Red Hat OpenShift is a fully managed scheduling platform that runs on Azure. So rather than Alpega managing the orchestration of their containers, they’re supported by two expert partners: Microsoft and Red Hat. It gives Alpega greater flexibility and agility to scale at peak times of the year. So right before Christmas, Azure Red Hat OpenShift scales up the system to make sure everyone gets their presents on time. Azure Red Hat OpenShift also detects malfunctioning microservices, replacing them automatically – without Alpega’s customers noticing anything. Alpega also benefits from the expertise of both Microsoft and Red Hat. So when there’s an issue on the stability of a cluster, Microsoft and Red Hat jump in to get the platform stable again. This lets Alpega focus on what really matters: helping to create a more sustainable transport industry. “If we are able to optimize the freight business by even 20 or 30%. Well, that's a lot of CO2 we can reduce, which will help society in general. All while making our customers more sustainable carriers.”
