(tools click) (plane engines roar) - As a father of 2 ten-year-old twins, sustainability is always at the forefront of your mind. - Rolls-Royce has been around for over a hundred years and we want to be around for a hundred years more. To achieve that we will need to decarbonize at pace. - And find opportunities to use data and data analytics to design a better engine. - Rolls-Royce operates in some of the most critical but also hardest to abate sectors of the economy. - The intelligent engine platform has been one of our more recent innovations and it takes that data-driven analysis that we've done in the past to understand our engines better and it automates it, it brings it into a single digital experience. So in the past, when we were on premise, we could run a single simulation at a time. Since we've moved most of our analytics stack now to Azure, we're running at least a hundred simulations simultaneously and in general, they execute in minutes rather than hours. - The magnitude of data volume and processing power that we needed was just not really possible or feasible with an on-premise hosted infrastructure. - We want to have a lasting compute and storage. That was one of the reasons moving towards this cloud analytics capability. - But also how can we use digital insights to optimize the kind of operations that our customers use as well? Reducing fuel. - That's where we need a really large, complex system to process terabytes of the data. - What we're trying to do is use artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics to make better decisions, to support humans in doing their job better. - The solutions we are building, they are putting our customers and our internal Rolls-Royce teams, in a great position to deliver business insights on time and right. - A recent usage of the analytics platform was to load environmental data from some of the key routes that our engines fly through. Billions of rows worth of data. And we loaded that really quickly into the analytics platform. - And it just ultimately allows our engineers just to look at the abnormalities, rather than trying to sort the wood for the trees. - More and more of our digital products and digital services built upon Azure will become the cornerstones of the future of Rolls Royce. - When we consider all the data that we receive from engines in service as belonging to our customers. So picking technologies that we can trust to be secure. - Something really important for me choosing Azure, and choosing it going forward. - The future for Rolls-Royce is really exciting. Through partnerships like the one with Microsoft we will deliver a net zero carbon future.
