How can we use technology to improve the day to day life of residents in the five boroughs of South West London? It's seeing how small things can make big changes. With a combined population of 1.2 million servicing around 60,000 businesses, South London Partnership are ambitious, in our future and the opportunities we can develop and offer. IoT helps to enable our physical world connecting to a digital world. So it's about collecting new forms of data that can bring new insights into how our environment can be better improved. Microsoft worked with us to develop a World First IoT programme. One of the key factors about the Microsoft Azure platform is its security standards. We can set up per block, which offices only see their residents. By being able to see all this information together in one place, you can get a definitive answer in order to be able to help people quickly and effectively. As part of the Innovate programme, we were able to save four lives. The sensor was able to alert us to the change in the pattern of residents’ behavior. We were able to get services in as quickly as possible to ensure that they were okay. Fly tipping is another really interesting one. We are now down 80% of our fly tipping. If you can encourage people to do the recycling in the right way, it's far cheaper. Gullies and culverts are the drains you see at the sides of roads we put in monitoring sensors where we had most frequent issues with flooding. If we believe strongly there is a high probability of flooding, we can go out there and take a couple of actions to stop people putting their lives and their property at risk. The data platform that we are building with Microsoft is enabling us to pull data in from all of the orgs across the South London Partnership. The future plan is to see if we can move that information into the Health Information Exchange and share that information with Health. We've now got just over 440 air quality sensors. We can now see how many people are walking on the footpath, what vehicles are going past, what the corresponding air quality is. Data, in a way, drives our knowledge, and by having that knowledge we can take away the fear and actually combat things. With Microsoft, they've been absolutely fantastic. They have genuinely got what we're trying to achieve. And so it's just magic.
