Since it was founded in 2000, Wemade has grown into one of the top game developers in Korea, with its core values of growth, responsibility, and accomplishment. Following its official launch in Korea in November 2020, the Korean version of Mir 4 helped lead Wemade’s growth by achieving substantial results such as reaching the number one spot for most popular game on four major app markets in Korea. Building on this success, the global version of Mir 4 launched in August 2021 with a play & earn (P&E) business model. Mir 4 has become one of the top P&E games in the world, with a record of more than 1.3 million concurrent users globally, and its metric for the Steam platform has also risen steadily. The keyword representing Wemade now is “blockchain”. Blockchain technology has been applied to the global version of Mir 4, which is designed so that in-game items can be exchanged for the cryptocurrency, “DRACO,” and this in turn can be traded at virtual asset exchanges. We would say that Microsoft Azure is the best cloud system for any game that aims for a stable, global environment. We believe Azure deserves a lot of credit for the positive reception of Mir 4 by players all around the world. As a cloud platform for developing games, Azure is being very positively received and evaluated by our developers because it allows us to release quickly, it reduces the time and costs needed for development and testing, and developer-friendly expertise and solutions are provided. Mir 4 uses a wide range of Azure functions and services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Cache for Redis, Azure DevOps, and Azure Data Explorer. Through Azure, Wemade has achieved both a massive cost reduction and optimized operational efficiency at the same time. Azure SQL Database is a fully managed, Platform as a Service (PaaS) database engine that takes care of most of database management without any input from the user. Azure SQL Database has powerful security, auto-scaling and 99.99% high availability. It provides expandable and flexible performance for the game’s workload. Azure Data Explorer is a fully managed service for data analysis that very quickly carries out real time analysis functions on high-volume data streaming collected from applications, websites, and IoT devices. Before Wemade adopted Azure, we had to invest a lot of resources into storing and analyzing game logs under the typical relational database management system (RDBMS) we were using. But since adopting Azure Data Explorer, we have been able to drastically reduce the resources required to analyze game logs and greatly increase efficiency. Wemade believes that the metaverse and virtual reality are unstoppable, worldwide tide, and predicts that these technologies will go beyond simple gaming or virtual worlds and become an actual part of people’s everyday lives. In today’s ever-changing world where games are evolving into metaverses and virtual assets have real-world value, Wemade is bracing for change and taking steps toward turning this great, global change into an opportunity. In order to achieve the ambitious goals we have set, cooperation with great partners such as Microsoft is essential. We sincerely hope that our cooperative relationship with Microsoft which has the best expertise in cloud computing for gaming and blockchain develops into a stronger, more prosperous partnership for both parties and expands into even wider and more varied areas in the future. We thank Microsoft for their past, current, and future support in our endeavors.
