Committing to be carbon negative
By 2030, we’re aiming to be carbon negative across our direct emissions and supply and value chains. By 2050, we’ll remove from the environment all the carbon the company has emitted directly or by electrical consumption since its founding.
Closing the broadband gap
In the three years since its launch, the Microsoft Airband Initiative has helped provide access to broadband for 2.1 million people in the US who are in previously unserved rural areas. Outside of the country, we’ve done the same for 17.2 million people living in rural areas.
Protecting the democratic process
Together with New York University’s Brennan Center for Justice, we have hosted cybersecurity trainings for US state and local election officials in more than 35 US states.Learn how we defend democracy
Employees give more than ever
Microsoft empowered its employees to donate US $221 million (inclusive of company match) to nonprofits worldwide and volunteer more than 750,000 hours in the US during the 2019–20 fiscal year.
Guarding against malware
We are trying to make it more difficult for malicious actors to operate online by disrupting their activities through legal action. Since 2010, our Digital Crimes Unit has collaborated with law enforcement and other partners on 23 malware disruptions, resulting in over 500 million devices rescued from cybercriminals.
Optimism for the opportunity ahead
“As we pursue the opportunities ahead, we recognize our increased responsibility in a world that will require more from technology to solve its most pressing challenges.” — Satya Nadella
