Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at www.office.com/myaccount. For more information, see the FAQ.

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Same as for Microsoft

If you have been using Office Home & Student for Microsoft, and you now own a Mac, you won't notice any difference.

Four crashes in 30 minutes

I just purchased this product an hour ago and it has already crashed four times. I am very disappointed. The product works, but you have to save it incessantly as you will otherwise lose your work.

Stop changing my correct work with errors!

I bought this because I had to. It's the global standard, and I've used it for years at work, so I'm an expert. But it annoys me to no end how MS Word keeps auto-correcting things that are not incorrect—even when I turn off that feature. I was trying to type a string of spaces and the program kept inserting periods. And my biggest pet peeve is that the program substitutes an open single quotation mark when I type an apostrophe. I type 'class of '67' and it changes to 'class of ‘67' instead of 'class of ’67' ... This auto-correction happens so often that it has become the new normal, even though it is blatantly wrong. It's a simple programming task: Turn the dang apostrophe the right direction when it precedes a two-digit number!!!!!!!!

So slow

I didn't know the MSExcel could be so slow. Once you select a column and you go beyond the last field with the data, it goes in long processing mode to select all the empty cells. I sometimes have to close it to make it work again.

don't buy this

This is not supported unless you had the new mac books. Wish I noticed this before I purchased it! Looking for a refund so I can buy a later version of Office.

So far so good

I read a lot of negative reviews about how different this version was so I was reluctant to purchase it. I was using Office 2011 for MAC on my other computers. So far I don't find it that different. Yes, some common functions were not as readily available but once I saw where they were and learned I could customize the ribbons I can't tell much difference between the versions.

needs improvement

I'm finding that for the most part it works ok but I have had a couple times already where the system has shut down and my work has not been saved. very frustrating. I wonder if more work needs to be done with apple to have the product properly tied in

Where is "Publishing"

In Office Home and Student 2016 for Mac, I can't believe you've eliminated the PUBLISHING portion of Word... so disappointed 😔
