Description
Sympathy for the Devil, now the winner of 14 festival awards, is inspired by the story of war correspondent Paul Marchand. Critics are unanimous about a film that is : "compelling," "powerful," "essential," "overwhelming," "impressively authentic," and "a great film" (The Hollywood Reporter, France-Ouest, Le Parisien, Écran Large, L’Express, Télérama). Sarajevo, November 1992, seven months after the beginning of the siege, Paul Marchand risks his life every day reporting on this fratricidal war in which 400,000 civilians are taken hostage by Serbian troops, all under the impassive gaze of the International Community. Provocatively, he writes on his car the famous words, "Morituri te salutant" ("those who are about to die salute you") and "Don’t waste your bullets, I’m immortal." Denouncing the injustice of this conflict and its tens of thousands of innocent victims, and caught between his journalistic objectivity, feelings of helplessness, and a certain sense of duty, he will take sides.
