I got it to use my xbox 360 controller on my windows 10 pc. But it only works with my xbox one controller. There is nothing on the packaging or the literature that came with the adapter that states it only works with the xbox one controller. It looses points for this.
Rocky start, but amazing now!
It was a rough start using this adapter on Windows 10. I had a new laptop and this new adapter, and at first it worked, but then after a while started randomly disconnected, then got worse as it started causing lockups and even complete system shut downs, followed by really slow boot times. After checking everything thoroughly I determined I only had these problems when the adapter was plugged in. After reinstalling Windows 10 and starting over again, I soon experienced the same issues again, with the addition of the adapter not even starting up or being recognized by the laptop, even after repeatedly unplugging it and plugging it back in, and restarting didn't help. I unplugged it and went back to using my 360 controller + adapter while I searched forums for answers. Just when I was about to return this product, I came across something. Basically, I had to uninstall Windows Update KB 3140768. I was skeptical at first as the update didn't appear to be related, but to my pleasant surprise this solved the issue! Sometimes I notice the adapter gets ever so slightly warm even when the laptop is off, and sometimes while the laptop is on the sync light is on indicating a connection though the controller is off. However, when I actually turn on the controller, it syncs fast and stays connected. It now works perfectly as intended! It was a rocky start, but it's amazing now. I prefer the Xbox One controllers compared to any other, including the 360 now, as they are much more ergonomical on the hands for extended play sessions. I hope the adapter didn't receive any damage during all these issues, same with the laptop obviously, but now that it's been working consistently for a few months, I can say it's been worth the hassle!
Works as Intended
I purchased the product and after some minor shipping delays it arrived. The packaging is quality and the usb cable included was an added touch. The product was plug and play on my Windows 10 PC with no problem syncing with my Xbox remote. Its worth buying name brand to avoid any unwanted hassles.
No more cables, works great!
Just plug and play. My experience is based on a windows 10 pc and two xbox one controllers. Just bind work controller to the dongle like you would your xbox one. No headsets or a third or fourth controller have been tried.
LAN streaming game play lag !
LAN game streaming to another PC in my house works well VISUALLY,... But actual game play using this wireless adapter connected to my Win 10 PC exhibits controller LAG,....which makes games very difficult to play. My home network is all wired with CAT 6 cables and gig switches,...so it's definitely not my network setup. I also tested the wireless adapter by moving the Xbox controller closer to it,....but the LAG was still there. If you plan on using this wireless adapter with your Xbox controller just to surf the net,...etc. then you will be fine. But it you are like me and was hoping to be able to use this adapter with the Xbox controller to actually play streamed games in another room in your house,....don't waste your money. The idea of this adapter is great and perhaps MS will address the LAG issue with a newer firmware,.... But until then only one star for me.
Going wireless is definitely worth the money considering how easily micro USB cords can malfunction. Although the firm rectangular design worries me that something might bump into my laptop and possibly bend it, but the USB extension cord that comes with it would solve that and any signal concerns.
