Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale. Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease. • From each character to subtle background elements, everything is lovingly hand-animated. • Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare. • Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets abound.

Hooked from the opening cinematic

I thouroughly enjoyed this game. I love that it just throws you into the world with no information on where to go or what to do, just follow your instincts and things work themselves out the more you play and immerse yourself in the world within. I found that it harks back nicely to the classic Zelda games. The music is seriously a work of art, it blends in so nicely to moments in the game and really emphasises the emotion shown in the world too. The combat took a little getting used to, slash and dash mixed with gunplay made for a bit of a shakey start for me, but its simple enough once you get the hang of it. I had a good sense of acomplishment when managing to take down a room full of enemies without taking a single hit. I would recommend anyone who loves top down adventure games to give this a go, and anyone who likes being drawn into mysterious stories with hidden secrets along the way would welcome it into their game collection too. It says a lot with out saying a single word.

Input lag and cheap design

I dont like the mechanics of this game. Input lag is at odds with the gameplay design, and overall cheapness adds nothing but artificial difficulty. Not a good indie, and certain themes are obviously copying Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - poorly.

Beautiful game, few tiny problems.

The entire game is beautiful, from the opening menu to the end credits. However, for a game so focused around quick reaction-based combat, it doesn't feel "smooth" enough. Most bosses are easier than some of the rooms filled with swarms of enemies. Overall, a great game definitely worth a try.

A Snorefest of a game, the last time I listen to games media.
