IMPORTANT: This app works with Windows 10 Pro and Home. This app performs with core functionality on Windows 10 S but some 3rd party plug-ins do not work. We are working with Microsoft on a solution. Paint.NET® is image and photo editing software for PCs that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is now maintained and developed by Rick Brewster. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool. It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP. If you buy Paint.NET in the Windows Store, you'll be supporting its development directly (normally we ask for a donation). You will get the convenience of fast, easy installation onto all of your Windows devices along with fully automatic, behind-the-scenes updates with all the newest features, improvements, and fixes.
What's new in this version
Version 4.1.5 improves performance -- sometimes significantly! -- and fixes a handful of important bugs. Version 4.1.4 fixes a crash and massively optimizes startup performance when a lot of plugins are installed. Version 4.1.3 fixes a crash that was happening on DX9-era GPUs (e.g. NVIDIA GeForce 7000 series). Version 4.1.2 is a small update that improves startup performance, fixes some bugs, and addresses 2 security vulnerabilities. Version 4.1.1 is a small update that fixes a few bugs and adds two new translations (Norwegian and Ukrainian). Version 4.1 is a big update that includes GPU-based effects, copy/paste for selections, and many other small features, fixes, and quality-of-life improvements. Plugins are supported! Instead of putting them in the installation directory, go to your Documents folder and create a new folder called "paint.net App Files" (without the quotes). Then, create the usual subfolders (Effects, FileTypes, and Shapes) and place the relevant plugins into each of them.
