Are you insured?

Understanding your insurance policy helps you reap its benefits to the fullest when necessary. To stay informed and aware of this year’s insurance policy, three webinars on ‘Insurance enrolment’ was held on three different dates and timing:

  • June 17, 2020 - 11:00 AM
  • June 22, 2020 - 3:00 PM
  • June 24, 2020 - 5:30 PM

As insurance is a vital aspect of protecting one’s future, pertinent questions were answered such as “What is the right insurance package for me and my family in the life stage I’m at?”. We had a great turn out of employees who actively participated in the session, leaving better informed of their insurance policies.

Yoga’tta get flexible!

Yoga is one of the best-known practices for mental, physical or spiritual wellness. Originating in India, its numerous health benefits propelled its popularity globally.

Since 2014, International Yoga Day has been celebrated annually on 21st June. This day was suggested because it’s the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has a special significance in many regions of the world.

Here are a few key benefits of yoga.

  1. Reduces stress – The breathing techniques and controlled poses in Yoga can decrease the secretion of cortisol, primarily known as the stress hormone. When used alone or with meditation, Yoga can promote relaxation and reduce anxiety and stress.
  2. Improves heart health: A study conducted by Indian, J Physiol Pharmacol in 2003, found that that the regular practice of Yoga reduced blood pressure in individuals above the age of 40. Lower blood pressure and stress levels can improve heart health and reduce risk factors for heart disease.
  3. May be a tool against depression – High levels of cortisol can influence the levels of serotonin in the body. As such, Yoga that focuses on the use of rhythmic breathing and meditation can improve the secretion of serotonin in the body and may help fight feelings of depression.
  4. Reduces chronic pain – Individuals with body pain or arthritis can seek relief from the regular practice of Yoga. It increases flexibility and strength in the body. Certain poses are gentle and can provide a much-needed stretch to the muscles without inflicting excessive strain on the body.
  5. Improves breathing – Pranayama or Yogic breathing consists of synchronization of breath with the Asanas but is also a set of breathing exercises that can be practiced on its own along with meditation. It aims to clear the emotional and physical obstacles in the body so that breathing is unhindered. Its technique of deep breathing can clear nasal passages and improve lung strength.

One of the primary reasons behind Yoga’s growing popularity is its lack of equipment. Practicing Yoga is easy; all you need is a mat, comfy clothing and an online video and you’re ready to dive right in!
