GB18030 to Unicode Conversion Tool (gbunicnv.exe)

The “GB18030 to Unicode Conversion Tool” download contains the gbunicnv.exe tool previously included on the Windows Installation Media in the support\tools folder.

This tool allows conversion of plain text files between GB18030 and Unicode. It is intended to help users migrate data from GB18030 to Unicode.

Supported Operating Systems

Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2

Windows 8 and higher.
Windows Server 2012 and higher.

1. Download the GB18030 Conversion Tool.zip to a location it can be run from, such as the Downloads folder or Desktop. The zip contains the end user license agreement and the gbunicnv.exe executable.
2. Extract the files from the compressed zip folder.
3. Read the license terms in the EULA English.doc or EULA Chinese.doc files.
4. Double click on the extracted gbunicnv.exe to run it.
5. Select Open and locate the desired source file.
6. Select the required conversion Option.
7. Select Convert to convert the input file.
8. By default the output file has the same name as the input with either “Unicode” or “GB” appended before the extension.
