Transforming how conservationists and landowners measure and monitor forests.Download SilviaTerra overview
Mapping the future of our forests
It’s essential for conservationists, governments, and landowners to inventory forests for ecological, social, and economic health. By utilizing AI, cloud software, and machine learning these groups can work together to study the effects of climate change and improve habitats. SilviaTerra is using Microsoft Azure, high-resolution satellite imagery, and US Forest Service inventory and analysis field data to train machine-learning models to measure forests.
How SilviaTerra uses Azure
SilviaTerra uses the following Azure services:
- Virtual Machines to run their imagery processing pipeline, including SAMSTS cloud filling.
- HDInsight clusters to scale their forest inventory prediction models across the entire continental United States at 15m resolution.
- Key Vault to securely store and distribute credentials to their runtime environments.
- Blob Storage to hold terabytes of remotely sensed imagery including processed Landsat, DEM, and radar.
