AI for Good Idea Challenge
We challenged developers, students, and data scientists to use AI to build a more sustainable and accessible world. Learn about this year's winners.

CardioVision
Bohdan Petryshak and a student team at Ukrainian Catholic University developed CardioVision, an application that helps doctors classify CT scans and MPR images of arteries. By detecting coronary artery defects up to three times faster, patients are equipped for better heart attack prevention.

LeafAI
LeafAI, developed by Maanasa Mendu, is an AI app that can recognize 38 classes of biotic plant disease with a 90% accuracy rate, from a simple smartphone photo.
LeafAI can help quickly identify plant diseases and provide treatment information, taking us one step closer to better economic and food security.

OrganSecure
OrganSecure, built by Pratik Mohapatra, uses a sophisticated set of machine learning algorithms to quickly match organ donors with recipients, providing real-time updates to people in need of a transplant.
About the challenge
The idea challenge is for developers, students, and data scientists to use AI to tackle some of society’s greatest obstacles. Review the terms and conditions from 2019.
Advance environmental sustainability
Project examples:
- Efficiently monitor the health of farms in real time.
- Accelerate the discovery, monitoring, and protection of biodiversity across our planet.
- Give people more accurate climate predictions to help reduce the potential impacts.
- Model Earth's water supply to help us conserve and protect fresh water.
Empower people with disabilities
Project examples:
- Help people develop professional skills and influence workplace culture and inclusive hiring.
- Use AI for hearing, seeing, and reasoning with increased accuracy to help people with everyday tasks.
- Create possibilities for all people regardless of how they listen, speak, or write to have equal access to information and opportunities.

Stephen Ibaraki
Stephen is founder of the ITU XPRIZE ACM AI for Good Global Summit and a Microsoft MVP.

Wendy Chisholm
Wendy is a noted author and serves as principal architect on the Microsoft AI for Accessibility team.

Alma Cardenas
Alma currently manages the AI for Earth program at Microsoft, using technology to address environmental challenges.

David Carmona
David is general manager for Microsoft AI with a focus on empowering developers to learn and create AI.

Angel Eyes
Angel Eyes is an IOT device that monitors a baby’s sleeping position and environment. Caregivers can view a live stream from anywhere and receive notifications if the device detects any issues.

Clean Water AI
Clean Water AI uses deep learning to detect dangerous bacteria and particles in water. The device analyzes drinking water with real-time detection and contamination mapping.

PoseTracker
PoseTracker uses deep learning to track the position and orientation of objects. This solution will use your phone camera to measure and track the angle, orientation, and distance of an item in real time.
