ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition uses Configuration Storage server as a repository for the enterprise layout and array member configuration. This repository is an instance of Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM). ISA Server can use certificates to authenticate communication between array members and the Configuration Storage server. Certificates are usually used when array members are in workgroup mode, or installed in a domain that does not have a trust relationship with the domain in which the Configuration Storage server is located. When using certificates, array members access the Configuration Storage servers with an ADAM account, using the LDAP over SSL (LDAPS) protocol. ADAM accounts are internal and are not exposed in ISA Server Management.

This update sets ADAM account settings so that they do not expire. If account settings have already expired and there is no connection between array members and the Configuration Storage server, installing the update will refresh account settings and renew the connection.
