New languages, regions, and pricing for Dynamics 365 for Marketing
We have two exciting new announcements for everyone interested in Dynamics 365 for Marketing:
- Dynamics 365 for Marketing is now available in all the languages and countries/regions supported by Dynamics 365 (online).
- The Dynamics 365 for Marketing pricing model has been adjusted to better reflect the way marketers use the product and consume its resources. For most organizations, this will mean a significant reduction in licensing fees.
These changes are already in effect, and don’t require any updates to existing Dynamics 365 for Marketing instances.
In addition, we are on track to release a major new update later this month, which will make the product even more powerful and effective for all users. Keep watching this blog for announcements!
Updated pricing model now based on marketing contacts
On its initial release, Dynamics 365 for Marketing was licensed based on the total number of contact records in your Dynamics 365 database. But customers let us know that their databases often include many contacts that they would never target with marketing campaigns, so their total contacts don’t accurately reflect their consumption of marketing features.
So we listened, and now we’ve updated our licensing policy to instead be based on the number of marketing contacts in your database. Marketing contacts only include those that you engage with marketing activities such as emails, landing pages, forms, LinkedIn integration, events, and surveys. Contacts that you never engage in marketing activities won’t be counted as part of your Dynamics 365 for Marketing license. While you’re planning your marketing activities, be sure to purchase enough marketing contacts to remain within your quota.
Unlike most other Dynamics 365 apps, Marketing isn’t priced per user, so users already licensed to access any Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement app on an instance where Marketing is installed will also be able to access Marketing without requiring you to purchase any additional licenses. You can even request any number of free (“zero dollar”) Marketing licenses to assign to users that don’t have a Dynamics 365 license, but these aren’t valid for apps other than Marketing.
In some cases, you may be entitled to a free Marketing license for one or more of your Dynamics 365 instances. This may be triggered by purchasing a certain minimal number of seat licenses for your other Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement plans. Free licenses such as these usually also include a limited quota of free marketable contacts, which you can increase by purchasing additional quota.
For complete licensing details, including specific quotas, prices, and other conditions, see the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide.

Rollout is in progress, so please wait to update until it’s done
We are already rolling out the infrastructure required to support the upcoming update of Dynamics 365 for Marketing.
During this rollout period, you won’t be able to update any existing Dynamics 365 for Marketing instances (the update button won’t be available in the setup wizard). This means that if you haven’t yet updated to the September 2018 release of Dynamics 365 for Marketing, then you’ll have to wait until the rollout is completed, at which time you’ll be able to update to the latest version all at once. Keep an eye on this blog for updates.
Some customers installing a new trial or production instance of Dynamics 365 for Marketing may already receive an updated version starting now.
