According to the <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/smithsonianapa.org\/stand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Click to go to the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center\">Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center<\/a>, Asian Americans and Pacific islanders are one of the fastest growing racial groups in the United States, with a community of over twenty-three million people. Unfortunately, fear, violence, and discrimination are deep-rooted in the history of the AAPI community, most recently increased by the global pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We stand with the AAPI community to celebrate their diverse experiences, traditions, and contributions and reflect upon AAPI resistance to help combat negative sentiment, inequity, and oppression. At Microsoft Education, we believe that educating students about Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the classroom is an important way to increasing awareness of their accomplishments and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/education\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/AAPI-Image-01_web.jpg\" alt=\"Girls in Singapore collaborating using a tablet device.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"extend-the-voices-of-aapi-people-in-your-classroom\">Extend the voices of AAPI people in your classroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From artwork to legislative change, the impact of the AAPI community cannot go unnoticed. Take time this month (and throughout the year) to spotlight the history, traditions, and experiences of the AAPI community. Use these AAPI resources for educators below to help you get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Celebrating AAPI Contributions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immerse students in the tradition of haiku using <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/edsitement.neh.gov\/lesson-plans\/world-haiku\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Click to learn more about this lesson from the National Endowment for the Humanities\">this lesson from the National Endowment for the Humanities<\/a> that compares classic Japanese poetry to visual art. Encourage students to compose their own haiku.
