According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, there are currently <a title=\"574 federally recognized nations\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bia.gov\/service\/tribal-leaders-directory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Follow this link to see all of the 574 nations\">574 federally recognized nations<\/a> with <a title=\"roughly 1% of students\" href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/programs\/digest\/d22\/tables\/dt22_203.50.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-label=\"Find out more about the students attending public US schools.\">roughly 1% of students<\/a> attending public U.S. schools identifying as American Indian or Alaskan Native (AI\/AN).
