Exams for Word Associate, Excel Associate, PowerPoint Associate, Word Expert, and Excel Expert certifications released first, and exams for Outlook Associate and Access Expert certifications are coming soon. You will still earn a certification for each exam you pass. Also:

  • Starting in late July 2019, if you pass three Associate exams, you will be awarded the Microsoft Office Specialist: Associate certification.
  • Starting in mid-August 2019, if you earn a Microsoft Office Specialist Associate certification and pass two additional Expert exams, you will be awarded the Microsoft Office Specialist: Expert certification, the highest certification in the Microsoft Office Specialist program.

Q. What is the exam format?

A. MOS Office 365 and Office 2019 exams as well as MOS 2016 exams include multiple smaller projects to assess student skills within Microsoft Office. You will complete each project and then move to the next project. These small projects test your skills as they would in the real world and validate your understanding of Microsoft Office functionality. Office 365 and Office 2019 exams include new Office features, such as:

  • 3D models
  • Morph animations
  • Slide Zoom
  • New Excel functions
  • Ink

Also, the Office 365 and Office 2019 exams have been mapped to one set of revised objective domains to reflect the skills required in today’s modern workplace. So, you will be tested on the same exam regardless of which Office application is being used.

Q. How is the MOS Office 365 and Office 2019 exam format different from previous MOS exams?

A. MOS 2010 and earlier exam versions provided a variety of brief tasks to complete using Office application tools and functions. MOS 2013 exams present a project for you to complete using the specifications provided. Office 365 and Office 2019 exams as well as MOS 2016 exams have multiple smaller projects, for more powerful skill assessment.

Q. How long does a typical exam take?

A. A typical exam takes up to 90 minutes.

Q. Where can I take a MOS exam?

A. All Microsoft Office Specialist exams are administered by Certiport. Direct your questions about exam schedules and pre-registration to the Certiport location where you intend to take the exam.

Q. Are MOS exams available in different languages?

A. Yes, Microsoft offers localized exams for the MOS certification.

Q. Where can I find my exam results?

A. Exam results are displayed on your screen immediately after you complete an exam. Those who pass will receive an official certificate (by mail) in approximately two to three weeks.
