Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease. • From each character to subtle background elements, everything is lovingly hand-animated. • Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare. • Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets abound.

No dialogue, atmospheric music, fantastic artwork, and solid gameplay. This is a great example of how to do abstract storytelling and how to do it right. A mystery with just enough info for the player to interpret whats going on, with challenging gameplay that truly rewards a skilled hand. "Easy to pick up, difficult to master". There aren't many games that have successfully brought the classic 16-bit genre into the modern era, but this one of them... I highly recommend this. 👍

I LOVE this game, it has alot of strengths and little to none weaknesses, with crisp controls, a simple upgrade and skill system that progressively transforms the Drifter into a neon blur, interesting and challenging boss encounters, and an almost top-down view that provides you with a tactical advantage. Not to mention, the style of the game visually, is amazing, and audibly, masterful. My only complaint is the use of the left control stick to aim when shooting, although I got used to it, I wish there was an option to change which stick you aim with.

I love 16bit games and the art in this game is amazing. The gameplay and combat are great and all the secrets in the game are fun to uncover. The map is quite large so this is a decently long game. The boss battles in this game are HARD. In alot of games, the boss battles are kinda push overs, but here, you feel sense of accomplishment when you finally defeat a boss. I can't recommend this game enough.

this is NOT for those to relax and laugh, this game cah be beautiful and cryptic but has one huge flaw, not the difficulty rather the frustration and stress it can create, i did infact beat the game but i still had to cool after the "sadistic" final boss...

The developers of this game, "Heart Machine" did an excellent job. I'll be keeping my eye on them. Hyperlight Drifter's story is told only through pictures. Not a single word is spoken nor spelled, which gives it a sense of "What the hell is going on?" Personally, I find it cool yet slightly annoying. Its hard to explain. The gameplay is fun, and provides a good challenge too. This game won't cut you breaks though. If you're looking for a pick-up and play game, you won't find it here. This is one of those games that's hard to master but once you do, is incredibly fun. This game will screw you over a lot, but never unfairly. If you lost your health before that boss and don't wanna leave and fight through the dungeon again, you're gonna have to persevere. If you can't do it, its your fault. Retry, and do better so you end up there with more health. This game also has a skill tree of sorts. Not very expansive but helpful nonetheless. [TL;DR: Not a pick-up n' play. Still a good game.]

from the gorgeous 16 bit art style to the zelda and metroidvania influence, there's a whole lot to love here. levels and bosses are challenging but fair and encourage you to explore every nook and cranny. What I also like is how the game handles player growth. other than new abilities theres no strength boosts in the game. Player strength comes from mastering your abilities and learning from each death. This is a must play!!!!

Combat is augmented hack'n'slash. It can be unforgiving, but it never feels unfair. NG+, a more challenging setting, seems to be the way the game was meant to be played. Chaindashing is one of the most fun mechanics in a game, which let's you move increasingly fast. Visually stunning pixel art that's almost psychedelic in tone and palette. The soundtrack is a masterpiece by Disasterpeace, the artist behind the OST for the game Fez and the movie It Follows. The lore is given in an abstract rather than direct narrative, as the game has no dialogue, but this breathes more life into the game in doing so and leaves a lot up to the player's interpretation.
