Description
IMPORTANT: This app works with Windows 10 Pro and Home. This app performs with core functionality on Windows 10 S but some 3rd party plug-ins do not work. We are working with Microsoft on a solution. Paint.NET® is image and photo editing software for PCs that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is now maintained and developed by Rick Brewster. Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool. It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP. If you buy Paint.NET in the Windows Store, you'll be supporting its development directly (normally we ask for a donation). You will get the convenience of fast, easy installation onto all of your Windows devices along with fully automatic, behind-the-scenes updates with all the newest features, improvements, and fixes.
What's new in this version
Version 4.2.14 adds full AV1 (*.avif) support, lots of CPU and memory usage optimizations, and bug fixes. Version 4.2.13 adds more low-bit depth saving support for PNG, BMP, and TIFF, and fixes some bugs. Version 4.2.11 adds XMP metadata support, 3 new translations, some UI improvements, and some important bug fixes. Version 4.2.6 has some important fixes, big performance improvements, and native support for pointer devices (pens, tablets, touch screens). Support for pressure sensitivity will be coming in a future release (4.3). Version 4.2.5 added WebP (*.webp) support. Version 4.2.2 added AV1 (*.avif) support (loading only), greatly improves DirectDraw Surface (DDS) support, adds 4-bit saving for PNG, BMP, and TIFF, fixes a bunch of bugs, and improves startup performance. Version 4.2 was a big update that focused on adding HEIC file format support, fixing performance with very large images, and upgrading and modernizing the functionality of many existing file types (JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF). Many other quality of life issues have also been addressed or fixed. Plugins are supported! Instead of putting them in the installation directory, go to your Documents folder and create a new folder called "paint.net App Files" (without the quotes). Then, create the usual subfolders (Effects, FileTypes, and Shapes) and place the relevant plugins into each of them.
