Review title of MatthewDoes what it claims but securely?

The application works fine and compresses PDFs as advertised. What it doesn't make clear is that it is a front end to an online compression service. They state they delete the files from their server in the privacy policy, but they do not: 1) state whether the document is transmitted over a secure pipe, 2) encrypted for transit, or 3) where and how secure their server is. I had expected when paying money and downloading a client to get a local compressor. If it wanted to throw my documents onto the internet, there are plenty of free, online converters. UPDATE: 13Nov - Bumping up because they responded to my concerns. I would like to see the statements about the security of transmission and local encryption status in the description on the store. After the Equifax hack, it is hard to be comfortable with transmission of sensitive information.

Review title of RandyCoversions Are Done Over the Internet!

The developer does not disclose anywhere that PDFs are first uploaded to their internet servers in order to perform the actual compression. Not cool. Developer states their severs are secure, they delete files immediately, etc, but in this day and age, information theft is rampant and not disclosing that your data will be transmitted over the internet to an unknown server needs to be disclosed before purchase. That said, the app did exactly what it says it will do. But that does not excuse my not being told they would be shipping my data somewhere else first.

I use this app in my work all the time and love it. I have recommended it to others as well and will continue to do so. But... have had trouble with it crashing at times.

Review title of ChrisCompression happens remotely

The compression does not happen locally, this is just an interface that uploads your PDF to their servers, compresses it, then downloads. Because of this, my organization's firewall settings prevent the application from functioning. Otherwise there are loads of free web-based PDF compression tools that work great, but if you're concerned about security and privacy, you want something that will compress your files locally without uploading them to a server where they are vulnerable. I contacted the developer and told them EVERY PDF I tried gave an error. They just asked me to send them the file. I had to troubleshoot myself that the compression was done remotely and our firewall settings block this. I was not able to get a refund for the purchase. Luckily I found another application called PDFOptim that handles the compression locally, so my company will be using that one for all of our users who require compressing large proposal decks down to a significantly smaller file size.

Just bought the app as I needed to compress twi large pdf files. Tried the first file and came back with error. Tried the second file and it came back with an error. This is probably why the app offered a 50% discount.

Review title of PaulSimple and efficient

The app was very effective and easy to use. Many apps that export to PDF create overly large PDF files that take up too much storage space on hard drives or in webmail online storage. Savvy customers may be annoyed if you email them a multimegabyte document that could have been reduced to a few hundred kilobytes with no loss in readability, so it's good to have the PDF Compression Tool. I do suggest that the developers give more options available in settings though such as the ability to change the default output folder.
