Review title of ChrisBuilt to fail, so you can buy a replacement!

The charger is fine, and charges my surface pro relatively quickly, but I have yet to have a cable last even nine months. I'm about to purchase cable number four, and at the absolutely horrendous cost of $80 (seriously? For some wires, simple circuits, and some plastic? This cost you less than $5 to make.) I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect it to last as long as the computer. A computer that costs over $1000 should include a reliable charging cable, and the surface line doesn't.

Review title of BarbaraCharger - Plan on buying 2-3 each year

My first charger lasted about a year. Since then, all have lasted about 3 - 6 months -- so, after 3 years, I am now ordering my 8th cord. Where it attaches to the Surface, the wire cover disconnects from the plug-in piece. You'll get sparks first, as the wires cross, then, soon after, it will short out. REALLY a POOR DESIGN. If you use your computer on a hard stable surface, it probably works better, but then, it would be a desktop. The surface is close to being the perfect lap device, but still needs some work - the power cord (and the touchpad on the keyboard also fails in time without support from the keyboard's backside) A few more generations and hopefully these issues will be taken care of . . . till then, plan on buying 2 - 3 chargers/year.

Review title of ImaniHighly Disappointed

My charger finally broke after 2 years so I went to get a new one. I used the new one less than 10 times because I have other laptops. In less than 7 weeks it is already broken. It has a short in it. I can’t even return it because it’s after 30 days. Highly disappointed because its $75 and didn’t even last 2 months. And yes I cared for the charger correctly!

Review title of RainBuyer Beware

This charger is only 5 months old, in perfect physical condition. It stopped working. It’s garbage. Microsoft should recall and provide free replacements. Many people have had the same issues. I will never buy a microsoft device again.

Review title of CarolSurface Charger Sucks

This charger is not a good design. I noticed it immediately. When the Surface is open the charger cord bends right at the top of the charger. It is too steep of a bend I found no way to stop that. I was right it no longer works beginning today Sadly, I have to buy another useless thing or throw the Surface out.

Review title of LerlaFrustrating Power Cord

I can't believe Microsoft allows these negative comments to continue and not try to improve the design on this cord. This is so frustrating, having to buy a power cord once a year at a price of $80.00. Microsoft should be giving it free since it is their poor design that is the problem and not how it is used.

Review title of SarahTerrible design

When this charger works, it is great. But, mine has died before the 1 year mark. I'm trying to get it replaced because it is still under warranty but I'm getting the run around. So, here I am spending $80.

Review title of caseyDoesn't Last, On Purpose

Like nearly all the other reviewers on here, my charger died after about a year and a half of moderate, low-intensity use. The cord going into the magnetic head piece frayed and a little wire stuck out. I noticed as it would grow very hot while plugged in, and I worried about it being a fire hazard. The price to replace it is very steep, unreasonably so, I feel. But the alternatives are foreign made knock offs that are also poorly made, so I guess I'd rather go with the devil I know, rather than risk one of those. But I do feel that Microsoft should give their customers more and better options so that they actually want to keep buying their products.

Review title of LDLShame on Microsoft for not fixing this

The reviews here make it obvious something is wrong. Microsoft should supply a new one to all surface owners.
