Very convenient fingerprint sign-in
I bought this cover for my SP3 to replace the original and it feels like i upgraded the entire device. It's easy to re-sign in after the device times out using fingerprint recognition. The keys are also spaced farther apart than the original keyboard, so I spend less time fixing typos. Definitely a worthy purchase. One comment to developers that doesn't affect my star rating - I'd prefer to see a type cover without the touchpad. Considering the device is a touchscreen, the touchpad is redundant. Getting rid of it opens up area for a number keypad, for example. (I'd love to have that!) If a second navigation feature is desired, the IBM style button in the middle of the keyboard takes up less space and is less likely to be hit by accident. Just my 2 cents :)

Simple and Effective
Between this and the Windows Hello facial recognition, my device is double secure. This has been in use for a little over a year now with no significant issues or wear. Functionally, it performs exactly as expected. The only reason for a 4 star review is a complete lack of options such as color, or materials. I would love to have this in the cobalt blue offered on alternative type covers without the fingerprint ID.

Very Good Keyboard!
As a professor, I use the heck out of this thing (as a tablet for reading and grading papers with a surface pen, and as a laptop). Love the feel of the keyboard, the protection it provides for the screen, and the easy on/off with the magnetic attachment. It's held up well (had almost a year), cleans up easy, and never had any glitches. The fingerprint ID comes in handy when face recognition occasionally gets tripped up (usually with strong back lighting like bright window). Would definitely recommend!

Horrible quality - Rendered useless by firmware update
This product worked great until one day in January when Microsoft applied firmware updates to my Surface Pro 4 and Touchpad Cover with Fingerprint ID. From that day on, the fingerprint sensor only worked intermittently, maybe 20% of the time. A few months later, it doesn't work at all. After Best Buy examined it, I was informed the fingerprint sensor is defective. I opened a case with Microsoft, but since I'm just outside my warranty period they refuse to replace the touchpad and want to charge me for a replacement. Microsoft does not stand behind their products, routinely sends out software and firmware updates without proper testing which break important features, and doesn't stand behind their products when they do break them. Do yourself a favor, buy from a known PC manufacturer and save yourself the heartache of nonstop quality and performance issues from Microsoft's products.

I added this fingerprint capable keyboard to my Surface Pro 3 and it has worked perfectly since day one. Much more convenient when the unit goes to screen saver. A simple touch on the fingerprint pad brings it right back to life immediately. Also, better keyboard and touchpad than original keyboard. Overall, VERY happy with this accessory.

Fingerprint reader interemittant or non-functional
I have had two of these keyboards and the fingerprint reader quits working after Windows updates. I believe that there is a firmware issue. Surface Pro 3. Enrolls fine but will not authenticate at login. USB fingerprint reader works fine. Not a good investment at this time.

Rarely works with Surface Pro 3 (and maybe others)
It rarely recognizes the fingerprint sensor. I'm only able to get it to work when I power on my Surface Pro 3 for the first time and then it stops working after that. Sometimes I can remove the keyboard and reattach it to get the keyboard sensor working again but that doesn't always work. I really wish they would get this fixed because it is a great feature to have when you want quick sign ins but in it's current state is a waste of money. Get it together Microsoft.
