About

I am an Applied Scientist at Bing in Microsoft Research Cambridge. My research is focused on Web search, information retrieval and machine learning. I started at Bing in 2007 (then called Live Search) at the Search Technology Center in India. Since then I have worked on a number of problems related to document ranking, query formulation and recommendation, query re-writing, entity ranking and evaluation.

I am currently pursuing a (part-time) doctorate at University College London under the supervision of Dr. Emine Yilmaz and Dr. David Barber. My research interests include representation learning and neural networks, and in particular their application to modern day information retrieval.

Dual Embedding Space Model (DESM)

Established: January 21, 2016

The Dual Embedding Space Model (DESM) is an information retrieval model that uses two word embeddings, one for query words and one for document words. It takes into account the vector similarity between each query word vector and all document word vectors. A key challenge for information retrieval is to model document aboutness. The traditional approach uses term frequency, with more occurrences of a query word indicating that the document is more likely…

Project Malmo

Established: June 1, 2015

How can we develop artificial intelligence that learns to make sense of complex environments? That learns from others, including humans, how to interact with the world? That learns transferable skills throughout its existence, and applies them to solve new, challenging problems? https://youtu.be/KkVj_ddseO8 Project Malmo sets out to address these core research challenges, addressing them by integrating (deep) reinforcement learning, cognitive science, and many ideas from artificial intelligence. The Malmo platform is a sophisticated AI experimentation…
